riding bikes is fun...
yesterday's ride to crissy fields conjured up old memories of my first day on maryjane. i have been riding maryjane, my 1969 raleigh supercourse mixte, for the past, oh 5 years. she has been truly the greatest bike. i started riding bikes when i was little but i had completely stopped after a bad accident when i was in kindergarten. i had somehow gotten my foot stuck in the rear wheel spoke, i sprained my ankle and now have a permanent scar on my left ankle.
about 13 years later when we moved to the city, my hubby received maryjane from a friend. over the years he has had many bikes and mary was eventually handed down to me. i was extremely scared to get on her for the first time. all i could think about was that accident and the idea of falling. to say the least that day that tom had brought me to crissy fields to relearn how to ride a bike was an adventure. we still laugh about what happened that day...boy was that good times :D
i have come so far from that day 5 years ago...over the last couple of years i have tried other bikes...i still have my 1969 3-speed hercules aka "ursula" and my 80's centurion super le mans aka "tina". but i keep going back to mary. i ride her every day and she is truly the best bike ever! we switched the gear shifters to barends and she is now sporting a new wald collapsable side saddle basket making it easier to lug my bag for work. as i ride my bike each day i wonder why more people don't ride their bikes more often..it truly is a magical experience.
