an estate full of treasures...

more treasure!! hahhaa

saturday the mister and i had a fun filled day...and on our way home we spotted a sign that said estate sale so we immediately parked the car and walked right in...

it is always so awkward, i think to just walk into someone's home and just pick things up and buy them but this place was soo nice and friendly. the son-in-law of the women that died was there and he was SOO cute! this house was FULL of stuff and they had already had the estate sale last weekend and there were tons of people that had already taken things out. this women, who was 90 years old when she passed, had amazing things and her son-in-law was telling us all about her and you could tell he truly loved and missed her. i think it was really good for him to talk to us about her...she seemed like a women after my own heart...if she were alive today we would have been friends, i know it! she was a crafty women, a sewer, a cook and a bit of a hoarder but in the BEST way possible :) oh and boy was she a cutey! her son in law showed us pictures of her...i wish we could have met! and she had the most amazing clothes that she hand made herself...i wish i had bought more because whatever didn't sell is going to the salvation army! oh well i am sure it will find a good home....so here is what we ended up taking to our little nest....

a great red table lamp with a faux wicker shade...and of course i had to have the owl to add to my ever growing owl collection...

this AMAZING ship painting...looks like a paint by numbers...which i am sure she did... another amazing attribute of this women...one of the BEST paint by numbers i have EVER seen! and the frame is great too! we had rearranged our wall in the living room to accommodate our newly loved treasure...

and since she had some amazing clothes i couldn't have walked away without these two things...i just had to have them....the tunic is so awesome...she hand embroidered the flower pattern on the pockets and the top...oh i can't get over how amazing she must have been! bless her soul and her wonderful loving family!

i hope to live to be 90 years old too and still be a crafty little old lady :)

  3. Wow I've never heard of estate sales before. I think they must be more an american thing maybe. It seems friendlier and so much less clinical than just getting rid of their things.
It seems like you had a really great experience there and found some great finds too!
I also really like the idea of you wearing the clothes that she accessorised. I think she'd be happy knowing that someone else is getting joy from her possessions. ^_^

  4. oh, I've always wanted to go to an estate sale! Looks like you picked up some great things with wonderful & memorable stories behind them. Extra special!

That wall w/ all the mismatched frames looks like something out of a design sponge sneak peek!

  11. That's awesome! You're so lucky to find that estate sale just sitting there waiting for you to come by. They're kind of hard to find and usually people hire companies to sell their things for them, which means prices are marked up. I love everything you got from there, really great finds!! Good job!! :)

  12. Garcia- I find out about estate sales through the listings on Craigslist. My advice is to get to them as early as possible. Some start during the week, say Thurs and run through to Sat, some just on Sat and all day. The first day is usually super busy but worth going to for the good stuff!
