roots

hi everyone and happy wednesday :) this week has been so much fun for some reason, maybe due to the fact that i am humming right along with my new line, i received two amazing packages on monday and we are packing for our bike camping trip to visit samuel p taylor for one last time before it closes sept. 5th, sad times :(
i love my roots, no, not my hair roots but the roots of where my family came from. i take pride in the culture i was raised around and often find myself fantasizing about escaping with tom and moving to the yucatan where my family is from. i try to go there once a year and visit the places that my great grandmother and grandmother visited when they were little. it makes me feel more connected to my heritage.
mexican embroidery is one of things that make me feel more connected.  my grandmother and her mother were amazing needle artists and they made some of the most BEAUTIFUL lace i have ever seen.  to me, embroidery blends with my personality and especially my tattoos so when i wear them, i feel most like myself. does that ever happen to you or make any sense at all?

this was an outfit that i wore to work and the top however not an embroidered good from mexico it still has the essence. it was a good thrifted find and i adore mixing it with my more modern mustard yellow colored pants.
colored pants can be tricky. the last pair i bought, the color started to rub off from my bum which made me sad, so i was a bit nervous to wear these while riding. they held up really well and i was impressed, way to go forever21!! hehe but just to be a bit more cautious last time i wore these pants i threw on a plastic bag on my bike seat just to play it safe...i'm fancy like that!

hope you all have a fantastic day, we got our film back from our sunday adventure so i will be posting those tomorrow :D

  2. I think heritage is so important and I have a post about mine that I'm almost done writing for later this week. Coincidences. I love embroidery as well and I think you look amazing in those mustard pants and I'm kind of jealous because I have never run across them in the wild, just on the interwebz.

  8. I take my hat off to your mustard trouser-wearing efforts! I spill food a lot, so my trouser collection is fairly neutral, and I tend to go for patterned skirts to disguise the spills! I am on the hunt for the perfect vintage mustard (I'm dreaming of cord) skirt at the moment.

My heritage is Greek Cypriot, but sadly they don't dress half as snappy as the Mexicans :)

  9. my grandmother is from Mexico so I love the embroidery top you have own and it resembles a lot of things my grandmother would wear. I have yet to venture into the colored pant world but I will make note of your clever plastic nag trick

That is such a pretty outfit. It is so cool that you are so connected to your heritage! I love Mexican embroidery- it is so intricate and beautiful, and cheerful colored :) I love things that are cheerful colored. Like your yellow pants!

  15. FABULOUS PANTS!

I am from the other side of the world and I have a soft spot for Mexican embriodery and Mexican culture in general - so much colour & brightness! I am planning of visiting there next year as part of a cruise actually if all the pieces fall into place (The cruise is all booked - I just need a room mate - gah!)

  19. I know exactly what you mean! I love when things can make me feel closer to my heritage. I am a mixture of a few different cultures, but I connect more with two especially. And when I am around things that make me feel closer to them, I feel close to my family as well, even if I am far.
