lost at sea

 lost at sea
 there ye shall be
so sweet and bright
 but cut short your time
sunk to the bottom of the dark blue brine.

tom and i went surfing in santa cruz this weekend and we brought our wonderful underwater camera only for it to have sadly fallen off after tom had a little wipe out. what was on that roll of film will only live as the most wonderful, sweet and magical moment in my ENTIRE LIFE! yes, people my ENTIRE LIFE! picture this....

a beautiful super bright warm day, tom and i jumped in the crisp cold kelpy water and paddled out. taking in the beautiful surroundings when a faint clapping sound interrupted my zen like moment...what i saw was heavenly, a huge otter floating on his back, slapping his latest crustacean meal against his rock, minding his own business as if i didn't exists, i was in HIS territory and he could have cared less. my jaw dropped, i yelled at tom and he started snapping away, the otter went back down only to come back CLOSER to me and my board. people, i could have quite literally jumped from my surfboard and claimed this furry bearded cutie and made him my pet! he was that close to me. it was beyond amazing and right after that i caught my first wave of the day and was the happiest clam ever until tom discovered the proof of my most magical moment of my life was claimed by the sea god.

we sat on the beach for a bit before we made the trek back to the car. me: "so when the otter was super close to me, was i like, in the picture with the otter?", tom:"...yea..." me: "hmmm...bummer dude"..... it was the saddest of times but also the best of times.

well, besides that we had a killer day. great waves, otter times, we did a bit of thrifting, i found a blazer, ate the most amazing falafel and then enjoyed some beach time before we headed out into the sunset.

it felt like summer and i never wanted it to end. sea, we shall meet again...very soon.

xo,
cb

  1. Can I tell you how jealous of you I am right now? One because you were just at the beach and two because of the blue beetle you were driving! Seriously? So jealous! On another note I might need some bike recommendations from you. With gas prices going up and up I think it might be a good idea to start riding a bike (and pulling the kids behind me)! lol ^_^

  8. Oh man, way to drop the ball Tom! geez! ;)

Oh well, at least you have the memories of otter times. Your day sounds like a perfect day despite the camera being claimed by the water. I so wish I lived in CA. I am dying over here in the 40 degree temps. I want to wear shorts again!

    1. poor tom, it wasn't entirely his fault, some douchebag got in his way while catching a wave making tom whip out. after tom breached, the guy was like " wow did you see that i like bunny hoped over you" tom was pissed and he blames that guy for losing the camera and i do to. BASTARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

um how many times have i told you get your sassy ass over here and join me in all this sunshine!

oh and glad to know that we will be awkward together while skating, this makes me happy.

  9. That seriously blows about your camera. I would be really sad too! How neat that you got to get up close and personal with a cutie little otter! That sounds really exciting.

  11. i love that blue bug!

ah - that really sucks about the camera. that is the WORST feeling to lose photos that you really were going to treasure. i had a roll of film ruined in high school because someone put the wrong chemical back into the bottle and i am STILL bitter about it.
