hot hot hot!

tom and i have been searching for a new place to go bike camping. we found one that was super close to home. they were all booked so tom and i decided that we would just ride out there and check it out. when we got of the bart train in pleasenton it was HOT, like blazing hot!! i have never applied so much sunscreen in my life and i am happy to report that it paid off, neither of us got at all burnt!!
the way there was pretty easy, lots of bike lanes (yay!!) and it was pretty much flat, or so we thought.... since it was so hot out we took a few breaks one being at this awesome little fruit stand, where we refueled on ice cold water and the yummiest yellow nectarines i haven had in a while.
to the left you can see the road going down, that is where we were coming from and we weren't half way up!
the moment we mentioned how awesome and flat the ride was, it got crazy!!!! and i mean super crazy! we were almost to the lake and the last oh, 4 miles was up hill! it was bananas and on top of that it was about 91 degrees and no shade! the road we were on was part of the tour de california which is a bike tour that just happened about a couple months ago. the part of the ride we were on is called king of the mountain which is one of the hardest rides and whoever gets to the top of the hill first wins a prize. we both kinda felt like rock stars but sweaty tired rock stars.
we got to the lake, refueled on some homemade veggie sandwiches, and of course a push pop and preceded to have a kick-ass time at the lake. the water was pretty much perfect except for a slight breeze but other then that it was awesome. we listened to npr and did a few puzzles and really really enjoyed each others company. it was flippin' fantastic and so hard to get back on gilbert because the way out was worse then the way in....yea.

it was the most fun we have had on gilbert for a while. it is always nice to find a new place to ride to and plus ending in a lake is pretty much awesome because it is such a perfect reward for busting up that huge ass hill! now i have a nice little tan, toned legs and a great memory of a truly rewarding day!

  4. That does look hot! :) How lovely to take a dip in the lake though, I love swimming in lakes, so much more refreshing than the sea without the saltwater! Looks like an amazing day!

  5. wow, that seems like so much fun, even if it was hot! one good thing though is you don't have the humidity in california like we do here in the south (i'm dying)! and the lake just seems like the prize at the end! cute bathing suit, too!

  8. What a fun day! Way to conquer those hills. I really really don't do well with climbs. I get more winded climbing than I do sprinting...I guess because climbs are longer. Anyway, way to go! I wish we had a nice lake near us that I could ride to. We pretty much have to drive from here.

  9. that sounds like a really difficult bike ride. Props to you two for getting to the top. All that work must be why you have such a bangin bikini bod. I'd like to have a bangin bikini bod but I dislike hard work and effort.

  10. your body makes me want to cry/burn villages. i also didn't know we were anchor tattoo buddies! i have one on my foot, which actually contains more fat than your entire body... i'm with amber. i really wish i didn't hate moving/effort.

  11. That bike ride sounds intense, but awesome! It's so cool that you and your hunny do fun things together. I have been in situations like that before where there is kind of no other choice but to keep trucking until you make it to a beautiful resting stop. The lake looks fun! It's been so hot here this week and a dip in the lake would be a dream solution to the heat here!

Good job on not getting sun burnt!

  12. That trip looked like a lot of fun. I am so not a bike kind of gal, but maybe I should try it again. It is really fun to go downhill, lol. The NorthWest US looks so gorgeous! I need to get out and visit my cousin in Portland.

  13. That looks like such a hard ride, I'm a total wimp that only rides her bike on the flat streets of Phoenix :) But what a reward at the end! Looks so fun! I love your bathing suit and the pic of you & Tom in your red shades!

  14. My goodness, that sounds intense! It looks like you had a good time once you got to your destination though :). My husband's grandparents live in Pleasanton and I didn't realize it was so hot there right now, I'll have to give them a call and make sure they're surviving :).
