diy: a simple way to cut shirt

happy friday!
today i have a fun and SUPER easy diy, no sewing involved.
while i was at the tattoo expo, tom did a bit of thrifting without me (so sad) but i told him to buy me treasures and that man did not fail me one bit. he scored me this super cute quail shirt! isn't he the best!!
it may be the tiny punk rocker in me but i love me a cut up shirt. i have never been a huge fan of high necklines and i do love showing off my tattoo's so instantly i new i wanted to do something to this shirt.
all you need is a pair of scissors and what helps me is making a line with some fabric chalk where i want to cut so that i am not just free balling it. there are so many fun things you can do with cutting a knitted shirt but here is what i did!
you can get a tiny glimpse of my septum retainer
i made a ballerina cut or boat neck cut to show off my shoulder tattoo's and a cut the bottom so that it was more of a crop style shirt which i love so much. bing bang boom, this is the result!
and as you can see i have already worn it a few times and plan on wearing it lots more!
easy, no? how do you like to cut up your shirts? i would love to see what you have come up with! have a great weekend everyone! tomorrow is my friends big day and i can't wait, it is going to be sooo beautiful!

  1. I do this all the time! Particularly when I come across a men's t-shirt that I like - they seem to hang better if you give them a wider neckline. Plus, if a t-shirt is a too big, cropping it or cutting the neckline so that its off-the-shoulder is much more flattering, because it makes it look less like a sack!

  3. This looks super cute!

I just saw some baby quails while I was walking with my dog near the stream by my house. They ran so fast and were so teeny tiny! You would have loved to see them!

Can't wait to hear about Boston and the wedding!

  7. I love that shirt! I think cutting the neck makes it look more flattering too, I hate how high up the necks on some t-shirts are.

  8. what a great shirt, and love what you did with it, so cute! I'm the same about tee necklines, but I've only tried to do this once and it didn't work at all! After seeing how cute this is, I'll definitely be trying it again, thanks honey. xox

  12. This turned out so cute! What a good find in that shirt and I love what you did to it. Last year I had the urge to do the same thing (chop up a tshirt) - made mine an off the shoulder top : http://www.forthebirdsblog.net/2011/08/no-sew-refashion-off-shoulder-tee.html

  14. this is my favorite thing to do on t-shirts! I went through a phrase in my early 20s where this is teh only way I would wear a t-shirt, of course all my t-shirts were from the thrift and I liked making them my own with boat-necks & sometimes even a "V" dip back... I love "flash dance" ing up t-shirts! this just reminded me I haven't cut up a t-shirt in a while... :) not since the open-beck heart DIY I totally used the hub's t-shirt and not mine. heeheehee.

    xoxo!
