what i wore: copy cat

yay, its friday which means tomorrow is my day off!!! its so hard to come back from vacation, i have felt so tired because of it but i plan on having a restful day saturday. what are your plans for this weekend?
ever since working at the tattoo shop, i have worn pants. i don't normally like wearing pants all the time but since i work with a bunch of dudes i feel a little shy wearing skirts or dress or being girly. i am not sure why i feel this way, i guess i don't really want them to treat me differently because i am a girl and i want appear like their equals but i don't get that feeling from them so i am not sure why i just don't dress more like myself. i hope that can feel more comfortable doing this soon. but that being said, i changed it up and wore shorts.
yea, yea yea, shorts are basically pants but shorter but i was proud for not wearing pants that day, baby steps people, baby steps. when were were in boston getting out hair done for the wedding one of the stylists was wearing a similar outfit to this. i loved it so much that i went home and did my own version of her preppy shorts and jacket. she had however grey boat shoes, which i would never buy but they are kinda haunting my dreams. i keep picturing them in my mind and feel like i need to go out and get some. but i know i would never wear them as they aren't really my style. does this happen to anyone else or just me?
details:
jacket: thrifted
top: up
shorts: h&m
shoes: vans (very old)
earrings: renegade craft fair
pins: swift industries/gift

  2. It's pretty normal to tone down your personal style in a new job - even an industry like tattooing still has certain 'standards' - you're being scrutinised so much when you're the New Kid, it's better to make an impression with your behaviour than with your outfits! But I'm sure once you feel more at home you will be able to start relaxing about what to wear :)

In my experience, if you love a pair of shoes enough, you will make them work into your wardrobe, no matter what! (Erm, hello, my red cowboy boots!) Plus boat shoes are very practical...if you keep thinking abou them, give them a try!

  3. I have been following your journey at work reading Google Reader during my breaks...downside is that you can't comment there! I had/have a horrible migraine so I'm taking a day off and able to read at home! I am soooo very excited for you. What your doing is awesome!!!! I cannot wait till your officially ready to sling ink, I'll have to book a flight out and get something done by you. :) My friend Barb says that its hard to wear dresses at work (she has owned a tattoo shop for a couple years and been slinging ink for awhile) because she often has to splay her legs to get up against the canvas she is working on....I've been able to giver her maxi skirts that I made and she says they are comfy to work in. Or...you can wear shorts under your skirts and be okay! :) Keep up the awesomeness lovely lady!!! Hearts, Janna Lynn

    1. Janaa, you are seriously the sweetest. I noticed that i had to soread my legs a bit the other day while tattooing my melon. Tom was holding it so that i was tattoing a person rather then holding it in my own lap. I usually always wear shorts under my dresses because i ride my bike but i totally see how it could be awkward. Maybe i need to fancy up my tops and pants! I cant wait to start tattoing people. It is scary but also amazing at the same time! Hope you are feeling better sweetie!xoxoxoxo

  4. I think it would be hard to wear a skirt working as a tattoo artist. you have to get in all kinds of crazy postions to get the work done haha. the shorts are super cute on you and I love the hair. The lighter color around your face looks great on you. It gives a nice highlight to your beautiful features. I can't wait to hear more about your work experiences!

  5. I think I would feel the same way about the outfit situation, but I bet you'll warm up to them soon and be able to dress like yourself! I do love this look though...I wish I could wear shorts to my job because I LOVE them :) The jacket is great with those rolled up sleeves and awesome buttons :)

    1. Thanks, i love this outfit a lot. I would love to get a jacket that has a patterened lining so when i roll up the sleeves you get a different color peeking thru.

  6. I might need to copy this one from you :) I purchased red boat shoes and have worn them three times. They are really cute but they dont go with too much of the stuff in my closet. I say hold off on the boat shoes and instead put the money you would have used to buy them into the "visit Ct" fund!

    1. I hope you do copy this outfit. I feel that way if i were to buy those shoes as i dont think there would be much to pair it with so i shall put that money towards a flight to ct!!!!

  8. I totally know what you mean about seeing an outfit and making a mental note to copy it. I've been looking for a cute blazer for ages so that I can keep wearing my shorts now that it's cooler... Love the big gold buttons on yours =)

  10. This is a super cute outfit. I love blazers of all kinds.

I totally know how you feel about boat shoes. I saw some glittery ones the other day that I almost had to get, but they aren't really my style... but I can't stop thinking about them...

I love your hair-do! How do you do that little braid? Is it like a french braid process but near the hair line?

  12. Omg I totally know what you mean about playing down the feminity in a male-dominant environment you are emerged in... I have done that too... its like trying to blend in as much as possible... and also stay comfortable, I am pants queen... but I also like fitted skirts... but for some reason... i can't wear shorts! I feel funny in them... so I never wear shorts unless its to sleep or play soccer. heehee.

    xoxoxo!

  13. I can understand about the dresses/skirts, and you've got to feel comfortable, but I LOVE the shorts ensemble, gorgeous! I know what you mean about fashion, the stuff that suits me, or that I really want never seems to be about when you need/want it! xox
