heeey! boy oh boy, do i have some awesome news!!! i mean, i still can't believe that it is real but...I GOT A TATTOO APPRENTICESHIP!!!! those of you who follow me on
twitter already know; i had to spill the beans, i just couldn't hold it in anymore. it is just bananas, simply bananas. the week i had off work, i printed out my portfolio and planned on visiting some tattoo shops. this is the outfit i wore my day visiting shops.
since, all tattoo shops don't advertise about apprenticing, you literally have to visit each shop in person, bring your portfolio and hope that the shop is willing to help you out. tattooing is a strange world and is pretty old school. some places make the apprentice pay, some pay under the table but most shops nowadays, the apprentice works for free. it is basically like going to school for free but you help around the shop and learn lots in between.
i was expecting to visit a BUNCH of shops and was ready to be turned down a lot and be okay with that. the shop i am working at was my 3rd shop, they told me to come back the next day and i met with the owner and i walked away with an apprenticeship. my first day was friday and it was more amazing then i thought it would be. i thought for months i would be just cleaning until finally someone warmed up to me and wanted to show me the ropes but they pretty much had me jump right in. i did a few stencils for them and helped the owner with a tattoo prep. it was AWESOME and i couldn't believe how fast it was that they showed me.
i have never ever ever done anything like this before and i am so super proud of myself for putting myself out there and really going for my dreams. i mean, this could be it for me. it feels so right as unbelievable as it seems at the moment but i am taking it one day at a time. i feel so humbled that they are giving me the chance and helping me learn. the great thing is that all the guys at the shop are really nice and laid back.
so what this means for me is that i won't be taking any tattoo designs until i feel a bit more settled. at the moment i will be working my regular job sun-wed and then work at the tattoo shop thursday & friday and possibly saturday so it means no time off for me. i am not sure how i feel about that but if it means i will be achieving my dream then i am totally okay with that. so bear with me while i settle down. i am excited to be able to share it here.
