bike chick tip

hey ladies! lately things are getting a little crazy over here what with my craft fair approaching and a millions things to make, my 9-5 and trying to finalize our future business plans i didn't have a post ready for you bike ladies....winter is coming and there are some great tips to share with you so that you can keep riding through the rainy season...when things slow down a bit and my head stops spinning i will post some bike chick tips....but for now i want to share with you with what may be the last bit of my summer riding wear....this is what i wore on our date to the ashby flea market....

a great black and white seagull printed romper with my red skinny belt and military style green jacket and of course red lipstick :D i really adore these shoes i am wearing from h&m...i have worn them riding before but with pants and have had no problem but these are shoes you definitely have to watch out for if you don't have a chain guard!! since these suckers lace up i didn't notice that my laces where dangling a bit and as i jumped on my bike to get on the street...i felt a tug at my feet and found that as my feet were pedaling my laces were getting stuck in the front gear....luckily i have a free wheel as my rear wheel which lets me coast without having to pedal...could have been a bit tricky if i have a fixed gear...these types of bikes don't have free wheels so the rider is having to constantly be pedaling...could have ruined my shoe entirely if i had to keep pedaling...poor shoe!

what could have been also really scary is i have toe clip pedals and if caught of guard or taken by surprise it can be hard to remember to lift your foot out of the toe clip so that you can plant your feet on the floor...that has happened before and i took a really really nasty fall...so i usually always rest my right foot on top of my right toe clip...thank god i did this time because i could have taken another nasty fall into traffic....riding pretty is fun but it can definitely have it's dangers!

so remember when riding to keep you laces tied, your pant legs cuffed and skirts tucked!

  8. haha, yes, good point about lace up shoes and bikes.
You are so cute, I love portraits of people with their bikes and chicks who rock red lipstick during the day. super cute outfit too, and it's amazing that you are a textile designer, that seems like the most fun job ever.

  12. this reminds me of my friend who was trying to adjust to clip shoes on her bike. we were out for a leisurely ride in the german countryside, when all of the sudden she just tipped over sideways. out of the clear blue nowhere. one moment: upright. the next: FLOP.
i guess she forgot she was clipped in, stopped peddling and pretty much ate it. good thing we were beside some fluffy grass, otherwise she'd have really gotten hurt! and then i would have felt really bad for laughing...yeeps. :P

    ps - L-O-V-E the seagulls. :)

  13. Oh, cute!! :) I stopped riding a bike long ago because it ripped my wide leg pants up in Jr. high - lol - but got one again, this year. Love it so much! But toe clips are definitely scary - I rode an exercise bike in the gym with them and almost got thrown off more than a few times..lol. Goodness.

Found your blog through the Virtual Fashion show! Can't decide which component is my favorite... I love the military jacket, the romper is really fun but the pop of red with the skinny belt made me so happy. So, let's just say I love your look!
