a bike date!

you betcha we went on another bike ride this weekend! but this one was a romantic ride for two <3  so what does one bring on a date bike ride? well of course, you, your bikes or in our case, bike, give it up for gilbert who has been a star this last weekend! so now that you have yourselves & your bikes, now what? where are you gonna venture to? we hadn't been to our favorite spot in sf for almost 2 years so we decided that is where we needed to be. we rolled out to golden gate park for some people watching & fun in the sun.

we opened the back of the film on these pictures so they look like they are on fire, i love it! LOOK! our panniers have a the perfect wine holder, yay!
you can kinda see a bit of our new mexican blanket and all our yummy goodies!

what to bring:
new mexican blanket from a disney cruise trip: check
yummy wine: check
amazing to die for cheese: check check
crackers & cold cuts: check
dominoes: check
bike chain: check
kicking misters a** at dominoes: CHECK!

once at your destination: pick a spot to plop!
our favorite spot is under the garfield statue no not the cartoon cat who loves lasagna but the president who was assassinated his first year in office, that is near the conservatory of flowers. garfield sits atop a little grass hill and when sitting on or underneath it, it is the perfect place to people watch. where only in sf can you see an old man wearing a kilt, while also sporting a bun and walking his two little black dogs!

thanks melissa for my awesome bike cup!!
what to do when you get there? have no expectations!
we had a great time just talking, drinking & eating and just really enjoying each others company. we used to go to this very spot e.v.e.r.y. single weekend when we lived in sf. it was and still is our favorite thing to do and wish we could go out there every weekend.

the flowers in front of the conservatory of flowers change seasonally so i was thrilled it was poppy season! they are my all time favorite flower. the poppies were so amazing that i had to take some pictures of them. they are so happy looking and make me smile whenever i see them :)

feel like doing more? be spontaneous!
we packed our bags and headed over to haight street where i popped into one of my favorite stores..buffalo exchange which is a used clothing store and never lets me down :D then we headed to a great little spot called the zeitgeist which is a great place because so many people from all different walks of life gather to this watering hole! if you can snag a place outside which is rare on amazing sunny days in sf then you have found yourself a gem...don't ever get up in fear that someone who has been hawking the backyard will scoop it up in a blink of an eye. don't worry though because there are portapotties outside. hungry?then you are in luck because they bbq all night long and make the best grilled cheese i have ever eaten! the mister and i grabbed a table and a couple of pitchers of beer and played dominoes into the night.

we had to make sure we caught bart as the last one runs at 12 so we headed back home. it was the best date we had had in a really long time. i love riding with the mister and couldn't imagine riding with any other person. like i have said before and i will say it again...riding a bike is more fun when in love!

have you gone on any bike dates recently?

  2. aw, that sounds wonderful! and your photos turned out fabulous.

we haven't been on a bike date since we moved back to this country, really. the hubbers has a tendon problem that makes biking painful. :( he needs a hand upgrade! :P

  3. SO ADORABLE. SF is SO BEAUTIFUL and i want to be there NOW. you and the mister deserve a medal for riding those hills - you must have legs of steeeeeeel!

i love the photos of you in front of the gardens - the light and your sunny yellow top!

i don't think bear has been on a bicycle since he was a wee cub, but maybe if there's cheese and meat at the end of it i could convince him it's a good idea... <3

  4. Bike dates are the BEST! Sounds like an amazing day. These are my favorites kinds of days.... days spent wandering around without a schedule... with your love or your best friend. These days always feel so slow, like they might just last forever. Love the photos too!!

  5. Ok now I am REALLY chomping at the bit for the weather to warm up in Wisconsin so we can get our bikes out of storage! And I've been regularly checking our local craigslist to find a tandem- so jealous of Gilbert!

  16. The weather is just warming up here in Bath (UK) and I'm dying to take my fella outside to play! Sadly he's doing a Masters this year so he has literally NO free time. This looks just about perfect. I might make him read it, to tempt him away from his studies just for a little while...;)
