breakfast and treasures

aint nothin' better! this is my serious breakfast face...lets do this!
hope you all had a great weekend! ours was filled with rain rain rain but it didn't get in the way of having a great day off together. tom wasn't feeling great and we had planned to ride our bikes out to the city and with the rain pouring we decided to stay local.

we headed out to get breakfast and i am so very happy that they serve grits at our local diner. it is my favorite thing to eat for breakfast. so warm and creamy.......here is my perfect way to eat them!

first, sprinkle with pepper......next.....
break up bits of bacon and scatter on top of grits...
then place an over easy egg on top and DEVOUR!!!!!!! so so so gooooood. there was a point though that i couldn't stuff anymore in my tummy so i had to call defeat but we will back and i will get my sweet revenge! muaahh!

after our delectable breakfast tom and i headed over to ecothrift, our favorite thrift store. this place is HUGE! they recently just moved into a warehouse so there is tons of space and lots and lots of treasures to be had.

i found this sweet red colander! now just need a tiny one for fruits :)

tom found me this agatha christie book. two of the stories i have read but the others i hadn't. once i am done with the game of thrones books i will be reading them. i love when tom finds me things, best husband ever!

also found this little cutie hiding amongst all the frames. she goes perfectly on the wall across from our bed :) i will be adding the poppie's with the faux bois frame when i get a chance to watercolor & ink it.

i have been really wanting to make a pair of shorts and found this pattern amongst the others. what really sold me was the two tiered shorts. isn't his outfit just fabulous? it deserved a close up picture. i am trying to convince tom to bring this style back but with no avail....maybe i will just surprise him with these bad boys one of these days.

lastly i found this really awesome vintage reversible raincoat for $5!!!!!!! i don't own a rain coat besides my bike cape so i was pretty stoked on finding this. i wore it to go see the girl with the dragon tattoo and this concludes a fabulous day around town.

p.s. the movie was awesome btw! everyone who hasn't seen it, should. i have been wanting to get a septum piercing for a long time and seeing that movie gave me the courage but still a little worried about it....any thoughts??

  1. I love your blog redesign

It always cracks me up when non southerners like grits... which i know is silly i just forget other people like them too lol. I like to eat them with sugar and very salty bacon mixed in, sooo good! but ima have to try them with an egg too

the girl with the dragon tattoo was so freaking good but the rape part was so intense it made me feel kinda off...also i was with my very very conservative mom so embarrassing ahah she put her hands over her ears and hummed to herself.

  5. I don't know what's gotten into me but I've been eating cheesy grits for breakfast every morning lately. So quick and easy and warm and delicious! I just started the 5th Game of Thrones book but I'm having a little trouble getting off the ground with it because I took a break between books 4 and 5 and I forgot a lot about what was happening. I also REALLY need to get a raincoat.

  10. You had me at Grits. You would fit in so well in Texas. :) Did you see the Swedish version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo? I saw it and thought it was brilliant which is rare since I hardly ever like movies that are based on books I've read (usually the book is always a thousand times better). Anyway I have been hesitant to see the American version cause I loved the Swedish one so much. Anyhoo....I have no idea what a septum piercing is but as long as it doesnt have anything to do with your lady parts I say go for it.

    1. i think we were made for each other! i did see the swedish version of the movie and liked that one as well. i didn't read the books so i can't compare it to them but both i thought were really great in their own way. you should give it a try.

the thought of a lady bits piercing makes my lady parts cringe and cry....no not for me!

  11. what fantastic finds, & an agatha to boot! sounds like a fun weekend despite the rain, hope tom's feeling better; everyone here who's seen the film keeps raving about it, but I'm yet to see it (that piercing always makes me cringe thinking about it, not sure why - but eep) :) xox

  15. bear love grits. he walked by as i was reading and he was like "hello...whatcha got there???" and then i told him and then he wanted it.

i had my septum pierced back when i had things pierced. my step-monster said it made me look like "a big fat bull", so that was awesome.

    love youuuuuuu! <3

  17. My mom eats her grits with sugar, and sometimes she'll pop an over-easy egg on it, if she's feeling 'adventurous' xD I recall an uncle of mine, who'd eat his grits with Tabasco sauce!

Those finds of yours are fantastic!

  19. I LOVE your breakfast face! Agatha Christie is the best. Nemesis was the first "big" novel my mom let me read when I was younger.

I think you should just make those shorts for Tom, and maybe he'll bring the style back without realizing he did...

I had a friend who had her septum pierced, but she always complained that it hurt... the doctor said it had something to do with the severed nerve endings searching to reconnect and they'd hit the metal ring instead, causing her constant pain.

It's raining in Albuquerque today, but I don't have a cute raincoat like you do!

girl it is time to get a rain coat! isn't it crazy that i am 28 and this is probably my first real raincoat! bananas!

  21. i love it when my husband finds me things too! and that raincoat is awesome!
i got my septum pierced during the summer. i had wanted it forever. it was kind of a pain though because I couldn't have it down at work. so i kept a little retainer in it, and never really seemed worth it to change to the ring, so I mostly left it up. then the retainer fell out one night and the hole closed up. but as far as pain it didn't hurt that bad, and it healed really easily for me.

    1. so you no longer have it? i am not worried about the pain, i have my nose pierced and have gotten it stretched to fit rings and studs just wondering of the whole comfort of having something in between your nose. i guess i can always have it done and take out if i don't like it! thanks foe sharing your experience rae!

  22. That picture with you in the fur is awesome! I got a new colander recently too, I needed a big big one for canning purposes. I don't know if there is a costplus world market near you but the one here in Boise has little tiny baby sized colanders in all sorts of fun colors for $2 or $3.
