happy little things #7

hello!

does anyone else have a hard time entering giveaway's? i love too but then in the back of my mind i always think, i'm not gonna win and then don't enter. well many months ago, amy from a is for ampersand, was hosting a giveaway for the cutest little locket and i was set on winning it.
sadly for me i was not the winner of this cute little locket so i made it my mission to find one. i discovered a new bead shop in sf that is absolutely fantastic, i could be there for hours and only just scratch the surface of the amazing treasures they have there.
while browsing a while ago i happened to cross this ornately designed oval locket and just fell in love with it. i loved how large it was and the crazy little fellow that works there, who will literally talk your ear off told me it was from a old jewelry factory in italy. he went on and on about it but my eyes started to glaze over and my brain began to wonder but i gladly paid for it and went on my merry little way.

i love lockets. they have a wonderful sense of nostalgia and are so charming and hold a little secret inside. for mine i wanted to add a picture of me and tom so i printed out black & white pictures of two i fancied, cut our heads out and just slide them right in! now tom will literally be with me where ever i go.

  2. It's really cute and I love the photos of you and Tom. I know how it is when people in stores talk your ear off. It's nice to see people who are passionate about what they do though, even if they're a little annoying sometimes.

  3. Anytime I have a friend who's getting married, I go hunting for a locket. I've done various silhouettes, line drawings and other artsy portraits of the couple and hide them inside! Guaranteed tears!

  6. it's really beautiful; I love lockets too though I've yet to find one large enough to fit in photos, yours looks fab & I love having a photo of loved ones so close.

I have some tiny lockets that I've had since I was little, though years ago Hubby bought me a gorgeous vintage-looking heart shaped one with a tiny heart amethyst in, which I just love wearing, but can never open! I'm always on the look out for big & interesting lockets - that may be a mission this year, thanks for inspiring me :) xox

  11. I think lockets are the sweetest, really any piece of jewelry that has special meaning can be so wonderful, kind of like a "touchstone" to turn to when a day is long or rough or you just need to remember how loved you are. Your locket is really beautiful.

  12. It just so happened I was listening to Billie Holiday singing 'Embraceable You' as I read this post, so perfect! I love the locket you found and I love having photos of my loved ones near me - wearing them is even better!

On giveaways: it is insane and surely very unfair how many giveaways I have won over the last few months, I am having a lucky streak, long may it last! I'll be hosting a few soon to balance out the karma a little :)
