sometimes i....

>>> want to scream at the top of my lungs
>>> want to dance on bart and not give a hoot
>>> live off the grid, move somewhere super remote and get lost
>>> want to go on a year long road trip around the states
>>> work 24/7 on my artwork
>>> want a leather fringe jacket, even when tom says no
>>> want to start a family
>>> want to renovate a barn into a loft like studio, thanks tumblr :)
>>> want to live on a farm, have a few chickens and a bunch of fruit trees
>>> wish were a cat, so i could sleep in front of the heater all day, and basically, rule the world

this weekend was a bit stressful. the government is not my friend and again for the second year in a row we are owe but i am still working on them to bring that number down. i am hopeful. we attempted to go surfing friday morning only to be a few miles from the beach and the rack, boards and cooler, just flew off the bug and crashed on the road. the rack was demolished. we were stranded on the side of the road until tom's dad, who has a truck, came to our rescue. it could have be waaay worse and we are grateful that both boards are still in one piece. they are in the shop getting repaired from the damages. it was just blow after blow and we did our best to rectify our moods. not every weekend can be magical and you deal with it the best way you can. thanks tamara for the inspiration for this post, sometimes when you have such high emotions it kinda feels good to write a list like this.

in other news, a received some really awesome & supportive comments on my last post regarding cayce's tattoo. the best being from mallory who mentioned me becoming a tattooist. my mind has been turning ever since i read her comment. since tom and i have known each other tom has always wanted to tattoo but other things have came up, like going to college and getting degrees. it hasn't been till lately that the idea of him getting a machine and learning has resurfaced. we talk about it casually that he would tattoo and i would help with design but i never thought about tattooing myself, not that i didn't want to but it just never crossed my mind..... i have been on a journey to find out what part of the art world to call home and designing tattoo's has been the closest to that feeling....now to dive in a bit further and truly find out.

  1. We've owed the last couple of years too :( I am pretty sure they are going to start garnishing soon too. Oh well! Sorry about all the sucky things that happened but it's great that you are thinking about doing something you love. How cute would a couple owned tattoo shop be?!?!

  3. Oh dear, one of THOSE weekends! You poor thing, at least you have an accomplice to share the burden!

Sometimes I want to just stay in bed all day, and sometimes I want to fly like a bird. Today, I'd just be happy if I didn't have cold and we weren't doing job interviews at my office!

I think becoming a tattooist from being an artist is the best way round to do it. Far better than someone who just wants to be a cool tattooist but has no artistic talent! Your designs are beautiful, and I would definitely pay your tatto shop a visit!

i am loving the idea more and more and put in a long email to my tattoo artist about how to get started! i can't wait to hear back from her!

  4. I love you, can we be barn loft owning neighbors? Our chickens could be friends. Sorry about your rack and your boards. :( Hopefully your next weekend will be 3x as magical to make up for this crappy one. Also, I think you should go for it regarding tattooing, you'd be AMAZING! <3

  5. Wowzers! I didn't realize I would have such an impact on your weekend! I speak the truth though. I've been dabbling in various parts of the art world for a long time. Right now I'm teaching high school art, and don't get me wrong, I love those strange little children, but I do miss being a part of the tattoo world.

I did an apprenticeship with my best friend a number of years ago after I got cut from a part time teaching position (budget cuts! I am a great teacher I promise!). Learning to tattoo was quite a journey, but ended quickly when my mentor didn't wake up one morning. It was devastating, still is, especially when you look down at your body and have all of these reminders of that person.

I agree with Eleni above, you are definitely coming from the right angle at becoming a successful tattooer. So many people get the gun and hope the talent comes later, but it's never that way. I built my own machine during my time at the tattoo shop and I really recommend that; you get a much better understanding of your machine and know how to fix it when something goes wrong.

If you've got someone that will show you the ropes, do it!

I'll come out and get drilled by ya!

    1. you totally made my crappy weekend amazing and gave me lots of food for thought! i can't thank you enough, mallory. i am so sorry to hear about your friend that must have been very devastating and i am sure your heart is still healing but i am sure you have wonderful memories of your friend :)

i hope that when and if we do get a gun that it works out for us, it would be really great. i would just need to build confidence and practice practice practice. you could be my first! hehe

so cool that you made your own gun, that is super awesome and inspirational. thanks for the link, it is great to get feedback as i don't know many tattoo artist except mine which i just emailed :) i can't wait to hear from her! thanks sweetie! xxoxoxo

    2. For the first six months or so, I could barely look at the work he had done for me (which covers MUCH of my body) without an aching heart. But now it is starting to flip and I feel so proud to have that part of him with me forever. I can't think of a better way to honor someone's memory.

I didn't get very far with the building of my confidence....I was always so scared...every time. Even when tattooing my mentor, my best friends....It just never got easier for me. But I really didn't get a chance to do it for very long, in hindsight. I think I am just destined to be on the receiving side of the needle and I am totally fine with that. Teaching art is where my heart really is happiest.

Being an apprentice can be rough and the path can seem very long. But with your drawing skills already very well developed, you'll just need time learning to draw with a new tool and on an entirely different ground. A ground that lives, breathes and moves. If you've got a good teacher, you can go all the way. And I will TOTALLY let you tattoo me even at your early stages of learning.

I'm excited to see where this journey leads you!

    3. i am so glad that you are seeing his work in a better light. i love when people get tattoos in memory of people they have lost and loved, such a wonderful way to always remember someone and lucky for you that very person was the one inking you, i love that.

i am a bit scared and diving into this but i know if i don't try i will never know and knowing is half the battle. it will be such a different medium which is one of the things that is so scary yet also so exciting.

that tattoo kit you sent me is WAY less expensive then i thought it would be! i was thinking hundred of hundred of dollars, crazy! it might be just worth it to get it and start practicing. hmmmm. my current tattooer is the most awesome lady EVER! i love her. we have casually talked about tattooing but it was in regards to tom starting. i just emailed her and she is currently traveling and i know just left her current shop so i am not sure if she would be able to teach me but boy would she be amazing. she has one of those amazing old souls and you just can't help but love her. she would be awesome to learn from, plus we went to the same college too!

when i am ready i will let you know! thanks mallory for all your amazing support! if this every gets off the ground, you will have a special something coming your way!

  7. Sorry to hear about your weekend wasn't up to scruff. You would be an awesome tattoo artist , that's an amazing feeling to have, I search for that daily :) Oh, and that list of things to do - seriously want to go on a year long road trip - move off-grid and live in one of those eco earth houses where you power your own electricity and drink rain water and have an art barn. Day-dreaming is the perfect way to start Monday morning - and turn it into reality of course.

  8. i can relate to all of those things except starting a family, because the ideas of babies scares the hell out of me, and the part about living on a farm because i already do!

i hope tom can start tattooing, because that would be an awesome job!

  11. pretty much every weekend is one of "those" weekends for me. i recommend smashing. that would be amazing if you and tom started tattooing. i keep telling bear that if he learned it would save us hundreds of dollars, but he "doesn't like touching people" so he won't. i told him he would be wearing gloves, but he still resists.

i hope this week is a good one for all of us! <3

    love youuuuuu!

  21. I am so sorry that the you owe the government money! I am in the same boat... and I know it doesn't change the fact that you owe money, but maybe it will help make the situation a little softer knowing that I, too, have to pay the government money that I don't exactly have... :(

I am sorry you had this sort of weekend. Sometimes we have to go through times like that in order to realize how really great we have it.... If I could help with the rack for the car and any damage to the boards, I would!

I am sending you hugs and love from afar!

Your tattoo designs are rad as hell! You should become a tattooist... I am still voting for a coloring book, though... because crayons are my favey and I would like to color!

    1. i hate paying, they already took some of my money, boo! sorry you have to pay too...i am going to sell some unneeded things to help pay what i owe :( but that is okay since we don't use some of these things.

i wish we could have saved the rack but what we need is a board bag which would have saved a trip to the board repair shop. we are going to pick one up when we pick up the boards.

thanks for the love sweetie, i greatly appreciate it! and sending some right back at you ;D

  23. So sorry that you have a bad weekend! I guess it's true, it happens now and then. And gosh, taxes can be a bitch. I hope you get it all worked out soon. Good luck with the tattoo adventures! Sounds like it could be a lot of fun...you and Tom would be the dynamic tattooing duo.

  24. This list is such a great idea! I'm definitely going to remember this when it feels like life needs a boost. I'm sorry about your weekend, it's no fun to feel like the crap builds at one time. I think it's awesome how a new potential venture for you and Tom may be blossoming though! That would be so amazing and I totally love your style! If I wasn't too scared for a tattoo I would call on you for sure :)

  26. awe lades, your vent/rant is resonating with me totally. i think it's awesome how you started it off though, with the positives...the things you dream of doing. way to be is what! i've just finished paying the big bad ol' gvnmt. off and boy was it ever an ache in my side. i sure hope you make some headway with those number crunchers, they're hard nuts to crack. best of lucks!!

you did have quite a ordeal with the ride to the waves but you're right...dealing with life's happenstances is something we just gotta do. it's like riding the waves in a metaphoric way i guess. interesting report about this tattoo artist idea. i can totally see you moving towards that vocation, really speaks to your true talents and seems to fit well into your life quite naturally. isn't it the greatest when that light bulb turns on in a place that once was filled in complete darkness. cheers to self-discovery with the help of some pretty terrific friends. xo ♥

  27. Honey, I'm so sorry to hear you had one horrid thing after another (but thank goodness no one was hurt), I can so sympathise with those blooming taxes & can only send you a HUGE hug & every good thought I have.

As for the tattooist idea, well that's just fabulous! You're such a talented artist sweetie, your own tattoos you designed are the best I've ever seen (& quite honestly the only person who's made me want one!), & to be able to do something you love, possibly with Tom too, well, if it's something that you think you'd want to do I hope it happens for you! So much love & good luck being sent your way right now xox
