well, well, well. another happy little things and may i say this might be my favorite one yet!!!
first let me start by asking....does anyone know who migaloo is? (
...insert: crickets chirping) well, if you don't know about migaloo, then you better ask somebody...just kidding, i'll tell you.
migaloo is a male ALBANO hump backed whale. amazing right? the answer : YES! i am pretty much in love with him and on top of it this huge guy has skin cancer :( yes, sad times. i am in awe of this magical creature and i constantly refer to him because lets face it he is pretty much the coolest thing out there in the big blue ocean.
well, now a few weeks ago tom and i were thrifting at our favorite thrift store, ecothrift and tom came up to me and showed me this amazing silk screen print of....OUR VERY OWN MIGALOOOOOOO!!!
i died, well not really, but i could have died the most happiest person alive. honestly. this may be the greatest thing we have thrifted. we noticed the name printed on the corner
maruska and when we got home we googled the name and damn, was it hard to find any information on it. our print is nowhere to be found so we are assuming it may be rare.
maruska was a company that did silk screen's during the 70's and some of the prints on ebay go for about $100. they are pretty amazing. tom and i could fill our entire house with these prints as they embrace all the things we love so much, the 70's, amazing 70's colors and coastal life.
>>> in other news tom and i went surfing again this weekend and we are actually going to make it a habit to go every friday when we can. a while back tom found another waterproof camera, as the other camera was
lost as sea. we didn't finish the whole roll so next friday we hope to finish it. hopefully it works and we get some good shots and will share as soon as they are developed!
how was your weekend?
xo,
cb
Wow - that's just beautiful CB. I want to come thrifting with you two. You have the best finds!
ReplyDeletei want you to come shopping with me too but i would rather come to you as NZ is a place i am DYING to visit! i know tom would love to visit again!
DeleteHow awesome!!! I would have snagged that too. It looks GREAT where you put it.
ReplyDeletethanks kristi! i was more then thrilled. tom is really good at thrifting, he may be the king of thrifting! hehe
DeleteThat print is awesome and I'd hang it in my home too! Have a great day, lady!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh! i have no idea how i've never heard of migaloo before because i always like to think i keep up with whales! WOW! i kind of wanted to cry though when i read about him having skin cancer :( it always seems so much harder to accept when an animal has an illness than when a person does. i just love animals so much.
ReplyDeletei know i was crazed that i had never heard of it either! he is so amazing! i know i was really upset too when i heard he had cancer, poor guy. i want to help him! i love animals so much too! i miss my job at the zoo soooo very much! it was by far my favorite job EVER! you would have loved it!
DeleteWhat a great thrift find! and a tender story about Migaloo. I've been wanting to adopt or donate to some animal organizations lately because it feels like the right thing to do.
ReplyDelete-Andrea
oh gosh there is a organization i forget the name but they are helping the polar bears! that is so scary what is happening. their world is disappearing a bit every day! that would be a great one to donate too!
DeleteI can't get over you surfing! That is so amazing!
ReplyDeleteand that is such a thrift score to find something you love<3 :)
xoxo!
Des.
i know i can't believe i surf sometimes too. it is really awesome but for some reason i can't get any of my friends to join in! :(
DeleteAlbino whale! What an amazing creature. It just doesn't seem real!
ReplyDeleteIt is sad that you lost your waterproof camera, but it does make me wonder... how many cameras like that have been lost in the sea? All those pictures somewhere under the waves. It would be a neat thing if a camera survived and washed up on the beach.
i thought it was fake too when i first saw it, it is just so crazy but there are sooo many other albino animals that it makes sense that there should be a whale, he is just so HUGE!
Deletei often think about my camera and if it turned up on the beach hours latter, that would be so cool to find it again!
Thanks for schooling me on the migaloo! I love see life. That painting is phenomenal! What a find!
ReplyDeleteI just love this corner of your house! I want a nice chair like that! This is very inspiring! I want to hang art in a cozy nook of my house like this!
your welcome kristen! i love that corner of our house too! we call the man lair because their is a pipe case right next it and it is really great to sit and read at too. that is the most comfortable chair and plus is swivels too!!!
Deletemigaloo is glorious. I wish I wasnt so scared of the ocean so I could take one of those whale watching boat trips and maybe catch of glimpse of migaloo. That would be phenomenal. In my next life I better came back as a mermaid.
ReplyDeleteI've only got about a hundred pages left in the hunger games and love it. At first I thought the writing was kinda childish in the same way the the twilight books were but its gotten so much better. I cant wait to read more of the book tonight! I wish we lived closer so we could see the movie together! I'm gonna try and get Kevin to go with me but I may be watching it solo.
i know isn't he! oh man i would LOVE to be a mermaid, it has been my dream ever since i was a little girl. when i would go swimming we would play little mermaid, BEST GAME EVER!
Deleteoh yay so glad you love the book, so so good! don't get me all happy wishing you lived closer! i think of all the sass that would happen. yea i would for sure see the movie with you. hope you get kevin to go with you. i told tom that i would take him to a bar after ;D
