the beginning of the season

well, ladies and gents its about that season...what season you ask? garage sale season! yup. this is one of my favorite seasons not only because the sun is shining but because of the plethora of garage sales that come with the sunny weather. our neighborhood is chuck full of them and this weekend was no exception. garage sales are awesome because treasures tend to be much less expensive then a thrift store and you can really make out like a bandit!

oh! sorry for being so rude, how was everyone's weekend? i got so excited about the impending flood of garage sales, i forgot to ask! well, as you can see that is what garage sales do to me and this weekend was a bit like that. we didn't get much treasure but, man, we got a deal for some of the stuff we got! all of this and a bit more i didn't photograph was..... $5.50! garage sale gods, i love you!
this adorable owl wall hanging, .50 cents!
sooo cute!!!!!
$1! amazing deal right?

this real sheep skin! it was in a plastic bag and i really didn't bother opening up, i just a feeling it was going to be amazing...and it did NOT diappoint!
it is super soft. we have one from ikea and it is no wear this amazing. it feels like a little bit of heaven under feet sitting at that chair and guess how much he was.........$1!! booyah, baby!

the rest of my weekend consisted of a girls sleepover, a little gathering at our house with friends and then a movie and dinner date with my cousins and sister-in-law. to say the least, i feel very grateful to have such wonderful friends in my life! oh and the greatest news this weekend by far is my best friend, who lives in boston, is coming for my birthday! best birthday present!

not sure how to put this...

my brain has pooped and i am not sure what else to write except, look at the awesome stuff i got while thrifting this friday :D i had a post planned but the film won't be developed until tomorrow, so this is a back up post. the developer dude at walgreens is... let me put it mildly, not all there....to say the least bringing in film while he is working makes me cringe...with that said...here they are...hehe

i was super stoked to see the fabric of this dress peaking out amongst the other dresses and was even more excited that it actually fit and get this...pockets! i will always instantly love a dress more because it had pockets...who doesn't like a pocket <3

love me a wrinkly shirt :)

this was an ultimate find for me. it reminds me of a shirt my grandmother would wear and it was really exciting to see it fit too! these usually don't look good on because they are always boxy and then too big,  booyah <3

tribal designs always catch my eye and this i saw after i was already in line to checkout...i can't wait to wear it when it gets a bit more chilly.

i love opening my cupboards and seeing everything stored in pretty jars, now my trail mix is so fancy!

this might not seem very exciting but let me tell you, it is....now, whenever i am making jewerely i dont have to get up and walk to the bedroom to see what my creation looks like on...i can just sit in my chair and decide right then and there...it is really the little things that make life good, hehe

well i hope you all had a fantastic weekend and were able to find some treasures too!

relax

what a great weekend! i always love going up north and visiting family, so relaxing and super mellow and who doesn't love getting to spend a bit of quality time with their cute little niece! I DO!!

we did a lot of laughing, playing of blocks, eating, drinking & reading books :D the little nugget is getting more human every time we see her and it is so exciting to see her grow up!!

we went to our favorite thrift store, aubergine and i scored a pair of pleated skirts, one cream and the other black. basic is always great!

i also scored some really cute earrings...these hand painted wooden giraffe earrings that will go perfectly with my wooden necklace and these awesome floral hoop earrings!

there are always treasures to be had there and they have such great vintage dresses but nothing caught my eye this time!

i hope you all have a great memorial day! i have to work and oddly i am totally okay with that! that's a great sign :)

gold mine!

hope you all had a great weekend! our weekend was great except that sunday it rained!?! it was a beautiful day saturday and we had a date to go to the ashby flea market in berkeley. we always ride through meek park to get to bart and they were a having a dia de los muertos festival so we walked around a bit and looked at the booths. there were some great artists there with amazing dia de los muertos art.

after our stroll around we headed to bart and got off a stop before to visit one of our favorite bike shops called manifesto and then rode out to the ashby bart. the flea market there is small but they have great stuff and a diverse crowd. there is always a drum circle near the entrance of bart which is always very entertaining :)
right off the back the mister found this AMAZING wwII navy pea coat with gold quilting in the inside and cordory lined pockets. he looks oh so cute in it. he needed to good jacket for the winter and we got such a great deal for it too!

the next stall over a women was selling hand made jewelry, dresses & skirts. i can't resist pattern and i loved this skirt and pair of cloth earrings! anything with a great pattern and bright colors is hard for me to say no too..she had a couple that were oh so awesome but couldn't afford of them all so i went with these babies...they are so amazing!! next to her stall i found this great bird book. i have always wanted one to reference while drawing...it has some great illustrations!

found two white ceramic owls and i put them on either side of the bathroom sink...more owls for my "owl room" hehe...

one thing i didn't get while in mexico was a embroidered dress...i was a little bummed but they can be really expensive even if you barter and then i found this at one of the stalls and  i just had to have it...i mean at $3 dollars that is basically free in my book. these dresses can easily sell for over $30!!

one of our lasts stops we found this AWESOME mushroom wall art, the colors were perfect for our little casa and as we were leaving a man in the drum circle stopped me and sang me a psychedelic song about my mushrooms...hard to really get the full picture but let me tell you....it was pretty interesting to say the least.

have a great and amazing monday!!!

Me encanta nuestros tesoros mexicanos!!!

yay, happy friday everyone! i am very appreciative that this week went by really fast!

every time you go to mexico you have to come back with some kind of treasure...it is just necessary. it is always one of my favorite things about visiting a place. bringing treasure back home and weaving them into my life always make the trip last forever.

what i love about mexican art and crafts are the vibrant colors and the designs.  every time i go there are 3 things that need to be bought. 1) a mexican blanket for the mister...2) some type of embroidered textile for me and 3) a cross and we accomplished these things this trip! here is what we took back to our little casa...

the mister found this really awesome mexican blanket. we both love the design and the colors....i am so in love with the little birds in this design! these thick blankets are our favorite to take to the beach or park and fit perfectly on our bikes all rolled up...

i fell in love with these embroidered purses that they had. it was so hard to pick one because they were all so beautiful! i decided that the larger one would be nice as i don't have a big bag this size and it was nice to have another bag to use for my commute each day!

while in tulum we saw this really cute little cross! we have several mexican crosses scattered throughout the house but this is a different style plus it has the bowl for holy water which we both really liked! now to go to lourdes, france to get some holy water!

this was my last purchase which happened to me at the cancun airport...i am a huge fan of the dia de los muertos art and just had to have them!

hope you all have a great weekend!! i have a very exciting weekend....a visit from my nephew and sister in law, our park is having a dia de los muertos art exhibit inside the mansion, pumpkin carving and craft making! lots and lots to share with you all next week!

i always love october!
