shopping green & local

hi everyone!

i love etsy. i love shopping it and supporting all the small businesses. when i had seen elsie sport her star wars dress, i knew i had to own a dress from rustycuts. i am a proud owner of the zigzag dress which you can view here and just love it.

the owner of this shop, judith, is really awesome! i know she uses old sheets for most of her dresses and while thrifting one day i found this really awesome mountain range pillow set....it got me thinking...it would look so cute as a dress! i emailed judith and she was totally happy to make a dress for me.

i sent her a package with my pillowcase and she made me this amazing dress! what is more awesome then a custom dress and having a bit of a hand in designing it! i am a HUGE sucker for scoop backs, i love showing off my back and peeks of my tattoos. to add to this awesome mix she is a local sf designer <3 we tried to meet up so we could both save on postage but our schedules never worked so i never got to meet her :( i always keep an out for sheets when thrifting so i can send her more orders in the future. i love upcycling just as much as i love supporting small business :)

remember when shopping etsy you can always search for local designers in your home town! by shopping local you are supporting your community and if they upcycle, even better! a great way to stay green and fashionable!

well as you read this tom and i are headed up north to camp in the redwoods for the weekend. camping is one of my favorite things and definitely makes me happy! here are a few things that also make me happy...

i really gotta finish up the drawing

the exciting horizon of an upcoming tattoo appointment! eek oct. 6th!!!!

my new collection i have been working on and almost finished with! eeeeek!!

a beautiful mess. elsie does a fantastic job, whenever i am feeling down about myself, like magic there is a post waiting to cheer me up and tell me to keep doing what i am doing.

bbq strawberry shortcake kebabs. made these a few weekends ago and i was a bit hesitant but man oh man it was AMAZING!

this bag...sadly it is sold....whyyyyyyyy!!!!!!

britney lee. she just finished this paper cut out of harry potter and i just love it! dont you just want to squeeze the little owls?

marina & the diamonds. i need to go see her again and with kelly-anne of course! twice is just not enough <3

my word for the year

the lovely diane from the dew drop inn has started a great tradition...every year on new year's eve she passes around a bag filled of words and throughout the night people can pick from this bag. the word you chose is your word for the year...each person has their own interpretation of the word and what he or she chooses to do with that word is up to them. she had left over words and was offering them to her blog buddies and i thought it would be fun so i signed up...she picked out of the bag a word for me and my word is...

i thought it was very fitting as a month before i wrote a list of things i wanted to do before 2012. this little list was inspired by the oh so lovely elsie from a beautiful mess who is an endless bit of inspiration. it was fun to write because it satisfies my love of writing lists but also wanting to try new things, pick up old hobbies or things i want to accomplish.

my list includes a few things like:

*riding my our bikes to santa cruz, camping along the way and then finally staying at the light house    hostel!
* making a bike jersey!
* go surfing again!
* go mushroom picking!
*be in the bazaar bizarre craft fair!

now i am not holding myself to this list as life never goes as expected but if i can cross some things off my list, great and whatever doesn't get done will then get transferred to the next years list. i kept in mind also things that were realistic...i mean going to the moon would be SWEET but i don't have a spaceship to get there but i do have two legs and a bike and i can go pretty far with that :D

happy tuesday! just a little post for today. the mister and i are featured on oh my darling's blog today, check it out. melissa is doing a really cute post every week where she features couples. she has a talented artist jaymie callaghan  it is just oh so cute and it was so fun to be a part of it! this is the picture we submitted for the illustration. it is one of our favorites together!

4 simple goals bandwagon :D

so i am jumping on this 4 goals bandwagon that elsie at a beautiful mess has created. i think it is a great idea and so helpful to write down...and even better to share!! so here goes....

1) go on evening walks around our neighborhood with the mister. this gets us out of the house, more exercise and a time to just be together <3

2) make more time to go on more bike adventures: kinda the same deal as the first one but we can go further! this also can include another bike camping trip we have been wanting to go on again :)

3) try and accomplish one craft project at a time i order to take citybirds to the next level: i tend to get really excited about an idea, so much that whatever project i may be working on i drop to try out a new idea..this is very very bad behavior in my book as i have a long list of projects i want to get done for a christmas craft fair!!

4) wake up each morning & think something positive about my life: everyday should start off on the right foot and since i am not too crazy about my day job (i tend to be really negative about it) that this will help over come the negative energy i spend thinking about it! plus... i have a theory for every positive action or thought that occurs a positive something always seems to happen :)

as for my treat i really want to make a wrap dress so when i get some of  these things done i will treat myself to getting the items for my dress :)

i am off to northern cali to spend some time with friends, family and a little thing i call summer..which for some reason has totally skipped the bay area...AND will post pictures of my new adopted KITTY when i get a chance!!!!!
