love
happy tuesday! just a little post for today. the mister and i are featured on oh my darling's blog today, check it out. melissa is doing a really cute post every week where she features couples. she has a talented artist jaymie callaghan it is just oh so cute and it was so fun to be a part of it! this is the picture we submitted for the illustration. it is one of our favorites together!

guest post: why i love...blogging
hi there, this is melissa and i'm delighted to fill in for cb today while she is going on a great travel adventure with her husband. today i'm sharing with you why i love blogging- i hope you enjoy it, because this turned into a bit of a deep and personal piece. thanks cb for having me as her guest today!
for as long as i could do it, i have loved to write. when i was fice years old, i started my first journal. it was pink, with hearts on its cover and a tiny lock and key to protect it from snopping eyes. as i grew up, my journal entries started to focus on the inevitable- boys. there is definitely an entire journal dedicated to my seventh grade crush. in high school, i joined the yearbook staff and offered to write the captions for pictures. and i kept writing those journals, which became an outlet for my teenage angst.
by college, i eagerly arrived at the school newspaper's office during orientation week and signed up to be a studen journalist. this is it, i thought as i left the building, giddy with excitment, this is where i belong. and i was right - i started out writing the articles that none of the senoir members wanted to do, and by the end of freshman year, i was elected to become a section editor. i was ecsatic about this because i wasn't usually the sort of person who had the guts to run against the competitors for a positition like that, but my passion for writing outweighted my timidity.
i continued working as an editor throughout college, and i loved everthing about i - covering cool events and coming up with meaningful features, staying at the newspaper office until 2 a.m. before publication, and having a great circle of newspaper friends who were evern bigger journalism nerds then i was. some of my fondest memories from college occured in that tiny newspaper office.
and then i graduated. i missed a lot of things about college, but most of all, i missed the newspaper. i just didn't realize it yet. without regular outlet for my writing, i felt lost. after spending about a year and a half trying to find myself, i turned back to journaling to try and sort things out, and it hit me - i had already found myself, many years ago. i was (and and) a writer. i love vocabulary, turns of phrases, and punctuation, and my best thinking occurs when i put it on a piece of paper. it's just who i am.
around the same, time i stumbled up a cup of jo. something about reading her work really resonated with me - at first, i felt invasive reading about a stranger's life, but then i realized that's sort of what blogs are all about - self expression to be shared with, well, whoever is willing to read it (in joanna's case, that's a hefty amount of people)
this led me to find more blogs to read. inside of relaxing from a long day by watching tv, i read blogs. i was happy simply being a consumer of blogs and keeping my own private journal, until a few months into dating my boyfriend. he and a friend were starting a blog about beer, and he would eagerly show me new post and updated layouts. then it hit me - if he can do this, i certainly can too.
so on july 1, 2009, i started oh, my darling (nostafia hits when i click back to the first post) somewhere between 0 and 5 people read it per day, but that was okay with me. i had jumped right back into my passion, in a new and exciting way. i was writing again, about whatever the heck struck my fancy that day. my posting ebbed and flowed throughtout the year, bu i always knew it was there, if the desire to write struck. and then, i really started to focus on it this may. writing so regularly rejuvenated me, and the blog became an integral part of my summer. little by little, i watched as my readership grew, and now i am astontished and humbled by how many great ladies out there are stopping to check out the posts.
whew! all this is to say why i love blogging, right? at its core, i love blogging because it allows me to write. and i can share that writing with other people out thee who care about the same things i do, and who belong to the same little blogging community that i do. on the flip side, i love to soak in the writing of others, too, and to support their creative endeavors, because i think that it is so important to write, if that's what keeps you happy, like it does for me. we're all basically keeping the grown-up versions of little pink journals, just with the lock wide open this time around.

SURPRISE!!!!!
friday was great because i got off work early! the mister took a bike ride through sf and met me at work and then after went to get a slice of pizza for lunch. when we got home there was a little box waiting for ME at our door step!!!! boy was it a happy surprise! and to top it off it was from one of my favorite blogging buddies melissa from oh, my darling! as part of her spread the love project she was sending out little treats to a few of her blogging buddies. if you haven't checked out her blog you should! she is amazing both inside and out and she has been extremely supportive of both the citybirds nest blog & citybirds shop and i can't thank her enough for giving me such a warm welcome into the blogging world!

a little update here and a little update there...
happy tuesday everyone! just wanted to do some updates on a couple of things....
first off is the #4 simple goal: waking up and thinking something positive: a little hard at first to start off the morning as i have been more tired because of the nightly pounces from the little rosalita but after a morning shower wake up it has proven to help! mostly the positive thoughts that have been floating through my mind each morning have been souly about the mister and how lucky i am to have him in my life. i get to watch him sleep while i get up and just the thought of him sleeping there and looking soo cute starts my day off with a great bang! he is my best friend in the entire world and i just love the way he loves me!
spreading the love update: got two things checked off my list! I don't see my neighbors very often so i wrote them a litte note asking them when they were free for a get together and left it on their door step. also wrote my co-worker a thank you and once i get paid will get something cute to put in the card :)
hard to post on a blog but i have been smiling at everyone i come in contact with...i only hope they can pass it on or helps brighten their day!
oh my darling: penpal pal project: this is been sooo much fun! i can't tell you all how exciting it is to get a letter in the mail. Here are some of the ones i have gotten so far. i have been using my type writer which has been really fun but also hard because if you make a typo well there is no such thing as delete...but i like the nostalgic sounds of the keys when typing and i hope the others who have gotten my typed notes so far have enjoyed them.
i had a hard time picking out cute note cards that would work with the type writer so i opted for green paper and found this really cute rubber stamp of poppies that look similar to my tattoos, so i thought it was a perfect fit!

spreading the love
i was so touched by melissa at oh, my darling post called spread the love. it is a wonderful idea and why not spread more love in world? with all the crazy things people do to each other it just makes sense! this also goes with my #4 simple goal to be more positive about my life so this will help continue that feeling onto others :) i have been in a situation before where i was sexually assaulted by someone for no reason, now it wasn't as bad as it sounds but i was still extremely horrified by what happened and it makes more sense to me rather then hate that person for the trauma they caused me why not share my love with others to counteract the bad deeds that others do. so here is a little list i will do this week and post and update as much as i can :)
1) call people i don't normally talk to very often.
3) compliment people more! i love the feeling of being complimented. it gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside and why not return the favor. i always mean to but for some reason it is the shyness in my that stops me from doing so.
4) write a a thank you card to one of my co-workers. she is always giving me little surprises and i want to return the favor...she is a wonderful person and i want her to know that :)
5) i feel like am a crappy neighbor so i am going to invite my neighbors over for a little after dinner drink to get to know them :)
6) call my grandparents just to say hi and that i love them :)
7) do something special for my mister...shhhh he reads every post so i can't spill the beans :)

oh my darling penpal project!
melissa over at oh my darling blog is starting a really awesome fun and nostalgic project: dear darling penpal! when i saw that she had posted this i immediatly emailed her and told her to sign me up! i used to have a penpal back in the day and it was soo much fun to get letters in the mail...especially when you are 10 and you don't get mail anyways...now i get nothing but junk mail and bills and the occasional card from the mister's mom...which is always such a fun treat.... like getting fun surprises in the mail too? well i would stop on by oh my darling's blog and sign yourself up...plus it is an excuse for me to use my awesome type writer!
