nothings better then a bit o' film

hi! just one more day till turkey day, the greatest bestest holiday EVER! really what could be better then celebrating with family and eating tons of food? none then i can see but......film does come pretty close to this.

we finally got the roll of film developed that we took with us on our little getaway. here are some that i thought turned out really nice

seeing these makes me want to take more film pictures. we used to take only film but now with our digital camera it has been so much easier to just download pictures and not to mention it is free but there is nothing like a beautiful surprise when you get film back.

oh you hippie strap

 i think i love you...... made my hippie strap for our new camera and i LOVE it! it turned out pretty awesome i have to say. it was so easy i want to make more of them, maybe for christmas, people will be getting some!

 the hardware we bought from the fabric store and i used some black fabric i had laying around and all i needed to do was just iron the folds for the back, pin it and then sew and that was pretty much it! i love easy sewing projects. plus knowing that i saved about $30 feels really good, hippie camera straps run around $40 or more!

if you make a hippie strap i would love to see it!

yesterday started my 7 day work week :( so i will be a busy little beaver while my lovely co-worker has some much needed family time off. after my 7 day work week tom and i are taking our 3 day anniversary escape, i can't wait!!!

bitter sweet

hope everyone had a great weekend! the weather was AMAZING over here perfect for a nice day in the sun and a bike ride. the mister and i woke up early on saturday got ready and then jumped on our bikes and headed out to oakland to try a new park out called mosswood park. we heard of a really awesome deli that is off of telegraph called genova's delicatessen so we headed there first before going to the park. i ordered a prosciutto sandwich and the mister ordered a pepper turkey sandwich. i grabbed a root beer and the mister grabbed a couple of beers. since it was an itailan deli i new it would have my favorite italian candy, boci. this candy always reminds me of my nona who passed away many years ago. she would always give me boci whenever we went to her house...it always felt so special and is a happy memory one that i will always remember.

the park was great, we had it pretty much to ourselves. set up our mexican blanket and sat down under the redwood trees to eat our sandwiches...they were delicious! took a couple of super cute pictures of the mister and just lazed around until the sun started to set. we packed up and went on our way back to bart. when we got off bart halfway home through the neighborhood i realized i didn't have our camera bag...I LEFT MY FAVORITE MINOLTA CAMERA ON BART!!!!!!!!!!! we brought two cameras and i was somewhat relieved that the other camera wasn't in it. i would have felt even worse if it was. i am so upset for leaving it on bart, it seems i can never get pictures of the mister for some reason :( right when i got home i filled a lost item report and have been checking my email and phone every second in hopes that someone has contacted me that they have our camera. i still feel so horrible, i mean it is just a thing and i can buy another one but i am one of those people that consistently is loosing something...so i have no pictures of our day in the sun...oh well it was a great day anyways!

but before we went into the deli we stopped at ruby's garden which has the cutest kids wear. our little niece, clementine is turning 2 this year and both saw these really cute super hero capes that we couldn't pass up so we bought her one! we were going to get the eye mask & wrist guards but they didn't have one that matched her cape so we left our # so the own could contact us when they scome in....isn't it cute!!!!!!! i can't wait to give it to her so she can run around like a maniac in it! she is going to be the cutest little superhero ever!!!!!!

with a vintage feel

we got the film back from our japanese garden mini date that we used with our vintage cir0-flex camera! they turned out really cool and they have a great vintage look to them. i can't wait to use the rest of the film...we have 2 more roles!!! yay! we have already started a roll and have a couple more until it is finished. we like to take portrait pictures together and can't wait to see how those turn out... each roll only has 12 exposures but so worth it in my opinion :D There is a do-it-yourself photo lab in downtown hayward so we think for the next two rolls we will develop ourselves! this camera obsession that the mister has, has quickly become a fun hobby for me too :)

this one is one of my favorites! it is really easy to double expose with this camera as you have to manually posistion the film with each take so this one turned out to be a great surpise :D

                      this one is another of my favorites. it is also a double exposure of a tomb/ memorial.

new experiences

 the mister found this awesome 1940-1950's ciro-flex tlr camera the other day. its a new type of vintage camera for us and i have to say it is pretty cool. he bought it last week and since he is a clever man he found this website where it shows you how to use the lens of any camera, a cardboard tube and another camera to use to take a picture. basically a camera sandwich and the 2 cameras serve as the pieces of bread and the cardboard is the meat of the sandwich.... here is a picture he took with the cameras...

 i thought the whole idea was pretty cool and the picture came out with a vintage feel....and it isn't even film! he used our crappy digital camera...amazing right?

so after he took this picture we were both really excited about the new camera so we went to urban outfitters because they sell the 120 film needed for the camera. they only had black and white film which is a first for us so it will be even more exciting to use the camera with film we have never used before...double whammy!!!

the mister had been wanting to take me to this japanese garden he had discovered awhile back while on a bike journey. it is near our house so we went on a mini date and played with our new camera. here are some shots with our digital camera...

it is so beautiful and peaceful there, i could have been there all day. some of the koi fish were enormous and brilliant orange...you can kinda see one of large ones...his tail is under the dock a bit... i also loved the trees which reminded me of dr. seuss  illustrations...made me wonder if japanese gardens were an inspiration to him...anyone know?

using our new camera was really fun but it will take some getting used to because when you look through the lens the image is reversed and i am already bad with my left and right...all i have to say is the mister was very patient while i took his picture!

can't wait to share with you the results of our new camera!! if anyone has experience using one of these bad boys i would love to see and hear about it!!

a train ride and reminiscence

last week, thursday couldn't have come any sooner! i was so relieved

to have the business portion of my travels over and done with!

wednesday night was filled with excitement as it was the beginning of

my new england adventure! i am pretty stocked with the way my pictures came out too :D

there is something so magical about being on a

train... like a long forgotten way of travel that slows time and 

creates a world of wonder. the scenery from my seat inside the train

was one that was filled with mystic and breath taking views with low

fog creeping into the wetlands of the new england coastline...i

couldn't help but wonder what it would feel like to live here...

the slated houses worn over time  provide a simpler time where life is

slow and sweet....having been raised in the california country with a

very small farm there is always a part of me that wishes to go back to

that...i am torn...there is something so wonderful about being in the

country where the air is quiet and nature surrounds your entire

senses...ever since i was little i yearned to live in the city. our

weekend visits to my grandparents house evoked a need that the country

couldn't fulfill but now as i get older i want to recede back to what

once was...a place in my heart where forgotten train tracks,

eucalyptus forests and sprawling grassy fields were the adventures of my childhood...

time capsule

 i LOVE this picture of the little mystery child. i love the effect the light leak has given this picture, her drooping lily her flower headband worn hippie style and her moms ballet flats that are too big for her. i love how her head turned to the side and she has the cutest little smirk on her face as she poses for this picture.

the mister had bought a russian, zenit-e camera, 1980's olympics model. it has traveled a long way from the u.s.s.r since we boycotted that years olympics! well low and behold there was old film still in it, SCORE! it's like finding a buried time capsule. there was still some pictures left to take so we ran around town taking pictures and when we came back home we found this cutie among the rest of the our pictures. isn't she precious!

i have obsessed over this picture ever since and my mind had been wondering in so many directions as to who she is and where she is now...for now my mind is happy with this unexpected mystery...have a great rest of your weekend...i am off for a nice bike ride and some treasure hunting.

camera craze

the misters camera obsession started about a year ago...it started off with a minolta hi-matic. a very easy to use auto focus camera....cool. then he went crazy...i have come to call him the camera hoarder. it seemed like every time he came back from the thrift store he had a camera. now we have about 14 cameras some functional some not...but since he has started this collection it has been really fun taking pictures. each time he goes to walgreens it is like christmas. sometimes there aren't many good pictures that come out and some times the entire roll is beautiful..its all part of the magic of film...i am not a picture taker myself but i really like his minolta hi-matic and the pictures that are a product of it. we live in a world where everything is instant gratification and it is nice to sit back and wait for something beautiful and surprising to unfold... here are a few that i love...enjoy!
