yay, happy friday everyone! i am very appreciative that this week went by really fast!
every time you go to mexico you have to come back with some kind of treasure...it is just necessary. it is always one of my favorite things about visiting a place. bringing treasure back home and weaving them into my life always make the trip last forever.
what i love about mexican art and crafts are the vibrant colors and the designs. every time i go there are 3 things that need to be bought. 1) a mexican blanket for the mister...2) some type of embroidered textile for me and 3) a cross and we accomplished these things this trip! here is what we took back to our little casa...
the mister found this really awesome mexican blanket. we both love the design and the colors....i am so in love with the little birds in this design! these thick blankets are our favorite to take to the beach or park and fit perfectly on our bikes all rolled up...
i fell in love with these embroidered purses that they had. it was so hard to pick one because they were all so beautiful! i decided that the larger one would be nice as i don't have a big bag this size and it was nice to have another bag to use for my commute each day!
while in tulum we saw this really cute little cross! we have several mexican crosses scattered throughout the house but this is a different style plus it has the bowl for holy water which we both really liked! now to go to lourdes, france to get some holy water!
this was my last purchase which happened to me at the cancun airport...i am a huge fan of the dia de los muertos art and just had to have them!
hope you all have a great weekend!! i have a very exciting weekend....a visit from my nephew and sister in law, our park is having a dia de los muertos art exhibit inside the mansion, pumpkin carving and craft making! lots and lots to share with you all next week!
i always love october!

the mayans had it right
on wednesday of our magical honeymoon, we rented a car and drove an hour south to the the mayan ruins of tulum. it was a straight shoot there, pretty easy but i didn't drive....thanks honeybuns for driving the crazy street of mexico!!!! and when i mean crazy i mean people have no regard to lanes down in mexico....
on our way to tulum there is an amusement park called xcaret (pronounced sh-car-et) it sounds like fun and looks like tons of fun but we just couldn't justify the money so we skipped it but their sign was just oh soo cute!
the ruins were a ways away from the parking lot. up a couple of stairs through a tunnel and then this was what you walked into this......
i mean breath taking, no? a couple of years back we went to chichen itza which is also truly amazing. but this was tropical, small and a bit more personal and on a cliff next to azure colored water! the mayans had it right! they were such a beautiful people filled with wonderful religious rituals, art and architecture. i love learning about the mayans and then visiting these ancient grounds....makes me feel like i have come home...
could you imagine living here? i could, it would be the perfect life....i would just ask my closest friends and family...some chickens and of course internet to keep in touch with all my pals ;D
it was soo hard not to take a bad picture here...everything was just so amazing, lush and beautiful.
everywhere you turned there were iguanas of all sizes just hanging out..doing what they do best...
after we walked around it was time to take a dip! the sun was out that day and it was blazing so it was so refreshing to take a dip in the warm water...it felt so amazing to be in the water where the ancient mayans once swam doing exactly what they probably did on those hot extreme days. i saved my awesome vintage two piece for this day but didn't take any pictures with my camera...that was saved for our twin lens camera which we still need to develop...those are gonna be amazing i am sure cause we bought colored film instead of the black white we used last time.
there are soo many other ruins i would love to go visit like coba and xcambo...tomorrow i'll share our mexican treasures we came home with :)

what we're back????? time flies i guess when you are in paradise!
we're back! but sadly back to the grind :( we had such a fantastic time, it was oh so hard to get up at 3:00am saturday morning to get on the plane back to reality...but we have great memories to look back on and more importantly we got to spend an entire full week together...just the two of us... total perfection :D
before i start, i want to thank all you for the lovely and sweet comments you left while we were gone, they were such a joy to come back to and read. i also want to thank my two amazing guest bloggers! thanks ladies, i soooo enjoyed reading them and having you as guests!!!
so this week you are going to be flooded with pictures of our vacation, as we reminisce on paradise...we came back with 9 rolls of film! 6 only developed as the other 3 roll of film are from our twin lens camera and we have to take that to a special space to get developed....so here are pictures of the airport, playa del carmen and.... the playa.....i have this urge to keep talking in spanish as i don't get to use it that often...it was soo much fun talking in another language even it's more like spanlish :D

our first day in mexico we took the shuttle from our hotel to a little beach town called playa del carmen where we walked around and looked at the shops, had a drink on the beach and then played in the water...the weather turned out to be better then we thought. the forecast said it was to rain and thunder the entire week...guess we were lucky because the weather was perfect...bits of clouds and scattered rains, just when you needed to get cooled down ;)
