happy little things #9
aaahh, my weekend has begun and i can't tell you how much this week has kicked my arse! this weekend will be spent, finishing up a tattoo design for a lovely little lady, updating my flicker portfolio, visiting home depot, hunting for the perfect piece next to our desk and then last but not least a 80 mile bike ride saturday morning! sounds like a lot right, you bet it is and i am soooooooo looking forward to it ALL!
a few weekends ago, while at the store, i sited some ranunculus bulbs and quickly got in line to purchase them and this last weekend i planted them! it was the perfect time to plant and come summer they will be bursting from the earth full of color. our little front yard needs a bit of color as it is currently all succulents and poppies. i can't wait.
tom got me these red ranunculus' for valentines day. they are one of my favorite flowers. i wanted orange ones for our wedding but they weren't going to be in season which almost made me reschedule the whole thing! hehe.... but we made it work ;)
this is a mixed box of colors so i am more then excited to see what pops up! it will be even more exciting because by the time they are blooming my poppies will be too, making our front yard a great destination for hummingbirds, bees and butterflies, yay! another reason why i love spring and sumer oh so much.

its time...
to get a new tattoo!!!!! i don't have the cash yet to get one so i am saving every bit i can and i think for christmas i will be buying myself a christmas tattoo! eep!
now, i have been contemplating what to get for some time... ever since my last tattoo of my daisy's i wanted to get more, it is that addicting!
right after i got them tattooed, a friend of mine wanted me to draw her another tattoo and i was more then thrilled do to it. here is what i drew her. i feel in love with it and really liked how it came out. it got my mind turning on what i wanted to get next....
i love my little harvey oh so much so i knew i wanted another bird. for a while i had been drawing a quail in the style of day of the dead but just wasn't crazy about how it was coming out so i set that idea aside.
i then started doodling lazy eyed susans which i just love. they remind me of my mom as we loved planting them in my little section of the garden when i was little but for some reason i haven't gone back to them. i really like them but think i need to explore that idea further and that will maybe be the tattoo i get after this one!
after the craft fair on saturday, i sat in front of the computer and searched for images of icelandic poppies and other poppies that are similar. i already have california poppies on my right shoulder and i just love all types of poppies and they make me so happy that i wanted to get more of them. while drawing the mister cuddled up right next to me and really liked the drawing so far which always makes me really happy.
i look up to the mister so much when it comes to art. he is beyond fantastic and i admire his style and his work so much that his approval of my work makes me feel like i can conquer the world, silly i know but it is so true. anyways, he suggested a quail again and i still do love them so much. growing up in the sticks of northern california i was constantly surrounded by them and adored the little family unit scuttling across out dirt road all lined up in a row. i found an image and started at it....
and i love it already. i ran out of room but that is okay. i can redraw it on a bigger paper and finish her up and figure out the placement of both the poppies and quail. i love it because i am a true californian lady, born and breed :)
now just to figure out where this sucker is gonna go! most likely on my left arm but i have to finish it all up and then have the mister draw it on me to make sure i love it.
i have a few other drawings i have done for other ladies and will be sharing those now and then, i think i just needed too take this leap and swho you my work first, i am a bit nervous. i love getting emails from lovely ladies wanting me to sketch them a tattoo! don't be shy! hehe
oh, i just opened up a twitter! come join me and lets tweet ;D

succulent garden!
sunday was another busy day for me...with all this business you'd expect me to be exhausted but you know what..i'm feel pretty good! i have been really wanting to do some gardening especally since i have 3 pots that contain dead flowers in them...it is quite sad really. my icelandic poppies have been dead since may! but boy where they gorgeous! i would run to the store right now if they were in season! it was sooo cold this winter that the frost killed two of my succulents and to make matters worse one was a wedding gift from our landlord! i was very sad that it died...but we have this really cute tiny cactus that given more room can grow up to 6ft tall! so now he has a new happy home :)
by our communial laundry room there is a HUGE patch of sedum succulents and someone had ripped out two buckets worth of these guys and i had been meaning to ask my landlord if anyone had claimed them and to my happy surprise no one did! she was happy to fork them over to us as she knows me and the mister are kinda succulent crazy... so i decided to go to osh hardware and pick up some flowers for one of my pots along with some succulent dirt and these really cute ground cover sedums...i am pretty happy with the results..i have couple of different species of poppies that look like they are about to die but i am giving them one more chance before it is time to plant something new.. :)
i am by no means a gardener and when we moved to our little casa over a year ago i totally thought i could plant all kinds of things... mom used to garden all the time and she always did an amazing job and i thought well if she can do it, i can do it too! well first of all our dirt is not dirt it is clay and it is the hardest thing to dig in...so it takes A LOT of motivation to play around in our garden...secondly...i don't have the time i thought i was going to have to tend to my flowers and veggies so i have started a succulent and cactus garden...if someone where to ask me any advice on how to garden my first piece of advise is to first realize what type of gardener you are...if you have all the time and patience in the world i say go crazy but if you are like me and have no time but want a pretty lush garden...succulents may be your best friend! i love each and everyone of my succulents and cacti..they are so happy and easy to care for and they LOVE the northern cali weather!
whats in your garden?
