what grows in your garden?

a while back i had my mom over for dinner and she brought me a tray of cabbage, chard, spinach and lettuce to plant. when we first moved to our little place i wanted so badly to have a garden...but the ground is so incredible hard that i just lost all desire to plant...thus i have my succulent garden, which i am very very happy with!

so when my mom brought me these veggies, i was a little scared i would kill them but luckily one of our neighbors was getting rid of a wooden trough which i had planned to put more succulents in but then this worked out better! my mom was so nice to plant them for me as i had some business to attend to....then we went away on our honeymoon and i wondered how they were doing and when we came back it was like a tiny little edible jungle had sprouted! i was so excited!!!!!!

cabbage

spinach
lettuce & chard

so yesterday i made a mixed green salad with lettuce, spinach & cabbage. I made sure to leave about 2 inches on the lettuce after i cut off what i wanted and only took the bottom leaves of the spinach and cabbage so that more could grow. i am thinking that my chard might need more time to grow so i left him...

it was so awesome to step out our front door and pick lettuce for dinner, the most fresh salad i have ever had! we get a organic box of produce each week which i know is extremely fresh too but this totally trumped the lettuce and spinach we get in that box. i am used to getting our spinach covered in mud but these greens were so clean and almost bug free :)

the salad turned out so yummy...grilled chicken, garbanzo beans, tomatoes & cucumbers topped with monterey jack cheese and oil/vinegar/dijon mustard....oh so yummy!

i am so happy with the results i am going to OSH this weekend to buy another trough and some more greens!!

what grows in your garden??? i  would LOVE to hear tips or any advice you guys might have!!!

tomorrow's FRIDAY and me and the mister are going to go to the dia de los muertos exhibit at night!

oh and thanks for all the wonderful comments on yesterdays post!!!! it was so awesome to get all that love!!

so this past weekend we developed a roll we had rolling around in gladys so we dropped it off at walgreens and to our surprise it was pictures of the walk we went on a while back where i found that really awesome woven leather purse! the mister wasn't to happy with the results but i thought they came out great! here are a few of my favorites!

this entire block was great! we both really loved these houses that look to have been built by the same architect and maybe around the 60's...so cute!

Loved this little house too!

this is a cactus plant in the meek estate park right by our house..it is HUGE like over 12 ft high!! i love the pink light marks on this one!

oh and i couldn't tell you what this house looked like because the ENTIRE front yard was this AMAZING garden! if i had a house with that much space that was all my very own, THIS is totally what it would look like. i told the mister as we were standing there admiring their yard, that this is the type of garden where fairy tales are made from. it looked like a place i would love to escape to and wonder around in for hours....like a secret garden.....hhhmmm that sounds so relaxing right now :)

tomorrow the mister and i are having a garage sale, yay! can't wait to clean house! and then on sunday my mom and i are going to a vintage expo!!! i can't wait! we went last year and had an AWESOME time! we went right before our wedding and the mister got his sharkskin suit and i got my wedding ring there! can't wait to show you all my treasures!!

have a fabulous weekend my dears!!

taking a stroll

yesterday the mister and i took a walk around our neighborhood! yay for us and sticking to one of my 4 simple goals! it was soo much fun...we didn't take many pictures as it was a first time and it was just so exciting just to be walking around on such a lovely evening! first we walked through meek park which is literally a hop skip and jump away from our house...i wish we took more picture of this but does anyone know what berry grows on trees?? we were completely baffled by this one tree in the park with, what looked like blackberries growing on it and couldn't think of one berry tree...

we spent the entire time pointing and getting really excited about all the cute houses that we never noticed while driving or riding by. there were so many that we loved and some with amazing gardens, some with whimsical forest like front yards and some with awesome cactus jungles...next time i will be sure to capture them so we can all be on the same page...oh and my advice to you is wear comfortable shoes...i was not prepared and i now have huge blisters from my sandals :(

near the end of our lovely stroll on the sidewalk was a box of unwanted treasures and inside i found this amazing woven leather purse!!!!!!!! i was so excited to find this and in great condition too and best of all it was free!!! we are definitely taking more walks :D

what free items have you found that you love?
