i heart the outdoors

heya. hope everyone had a great weekend.  i had myself a wonderful 3 day weekend; it was very hard to go back to work on sunday that's for sure!

as for our weekend we an amazing breakfast at a new place (more on that later) and did a bit of thrifting. after, tom and i headed to a trail nearby. it has rained a ton the day before so the trail was a bit muddy but it was such a beautiful day that we wanted to get out and get a little exercise.
since it was so moist out there was tons of mushrooms which i was very excited about. i love mushrooms and have been wanting to get one tattooed for the longest time but not sure where yet. i'm sure in a matter of time i will figure out the perfect spot for it :)
there was a unexpected waterfall that felt a bit out of place but i thought it was really pretty despite the dirty brown water. the sound of water, to me, is extremely soothing however we had to cut short our walk because the trail crossed the stream making it impossible to cross without rain boots so we had to turn around. neither tom or i were willing to walk across the moss covered tree either, cause you just know how that would have turned out :O yea, me, wet as a rat, covered in dirty brown water...no thanks!
what tom and i wore hiking :) he scored his awesome red pendleton while thrifting the day before. he looks like my very own handsome ranger rick! i love it. we still have not finished that roll of film we took with us; we have had it since christmas and i can't wait to see what surprises it brings! will share these too once developed.
yes, yes those are reindeer & bison in the same captivity. we have an awesome local zoo.
>>> a lot of time was spent outdoors this weekend. i went to the zoo with my mom on saturday. it was earth day there so there were tons of organizations out on display. for a while now i have had this lingering feeling of wanting to do more. and by doing more i mean by getting out there and helping improve our planet and making sure others in the future can enjoy the same things i do. i do feel like i do a lot, we ride out bikes, drive an old car that takes very little gas, recycle, thrift and eat organic. but i know we could be doing so much more.

there are so many things that i love about this place and i am the kind of lady that loves being outside and i feel at times that we take advantage of the things we love. i want to give back and i think now is the time. i am not sure yet what i would like to do, teaching & educating people is something that has been on my mind. i think the more aware & educated people are can help improve our earth.  i have looked up a couple organizations that are dear to my heart like the surfrider foundation and the east bay bike coalition and at the moment i amconsidering my options on how to give back. if you have any suggestions i would love to hear them!

our little getaway

happy monday! hope you all had a lovely weekend! tom and i had the best little getaway, really just what we needed.  we are waiting for another roll of film and will share that when it is ready but for now here are some snippets of our weekend.
of course we rode gilbert out to point reyes but had to go through sf to get there...on the way to the golden gate bridge we spotted the banana guy from jamba juice, poor guy...i hope he gets paid more then minimum wage to strut around in that get up and i am sure he was less then please to have me take a picture of him while we flew by on gilbert.

we stopped in the redwoods to catch a break and drink some water, man the weather was AMAZING and it was hot as hell too! could not resist taking a picture of the moss, soo cool!!!!!!

this was a our case for the next two days, isnt it adorable?!?!? we had a hard time leaving, the little back yard was awesome! we hung out there alot, drank wine while listening to npr and tried not to get poked in the face from the hummingbirds that were chasing each other in the yard.

we spotted so much wild life, this little guy being one of them. i am so curious as to what he is gonna look like when he comes out of his cocoon! we also ran into 4 snakes, one being dead, thank goodness, sorry not a huge snake fan, 1 sad little bat that was dead on the side of the road and 1 hawk, a swarm of quials and countless deer. this time of year is deer mating season so there were tons of them everywhere! oh and don't forget the cute little hummingbirds!

we went on a "hike" which ended up being the worst idea possible. it was HOT, no shade and tom was inappropriately dressed for hiking, long pants, thermal AND flannel, in the hot weather. he ended having to buy a t-shirt at the store. we sat, drank a shit ton of water and stuffed ourselves, well actually speak tom did, hehe.
found some awesome wood teepee's and then headed right to the local saloon to grab some much needed cold beers to wipe away the "hike" from hell. hehe

we ate out both nights, heaven, drank local beers and downed some local oysters, my favorite! the first night we had brick oven pizza while enjoying the awesome backyard of the restaurant. the view from our table was amazing, i actually took several of these shots because i was obsessed with the little vignette.

point reyes station is tiny but lucky enough to have the yummiest CUTEST dinner EVER! we ate there twice. it was a yummy farewell. we headed out early friday morning and enjoyed awesome weather on the ride back home.

we are planning our next trip back. it was just a great place to really get away from everything and spend quality time with each other but sometimes i wish that we could just escape from everything and live out in the hills in a tiny little town with the hills and ocean as our backyard...***sigh***

oh and don't forget 15% off in my little store, sale ends november 1st, use SOINLOVE code at check out!

our valentine's day adventure!

happy valentines day!!!

i wish you all have a lovely day and are able to surround yourself with LOTS of love! the mister works late tonight so we celebrated with an awesome trip to the coast! saturday started out bright and beautiful and we hopped into gladys and headed out to point reyes which is about a 2 hour drive from where we live. i have always wanted to go to point reyes and this summer we have plans to go on a bike riding camping adventure so it was nice to see what the route would be like to get there! here are some pictures of the hike....the weather was absolutely amazing especially for the coast which can be a hit or miss...lucky us :D

hike was a total of about 3 hours and ended at a beautiful cliff overseeing the beach below. we had a great time giggling and just being silly...it was nice to feel alone together and have time to talk and plus it felt really good to get out and exercise!

the oysters were so yummy we ordered a 2nd round!

we were starving by the time we got back to the car so we took a short drive to a oyster bar and had ourselves some grub! we ate outside and the view of tomales bay was so beautiful. it was the perfect spot for a well deserved meal!

thanks baby for the truly the best valentines day ever!

how are you spending this special day?

oh the great outdoors

the mister and i were oh so lucky to able to go hiking this saturday! it was overcast and it did sprinkle on us a bit while hiking but we came prepared and it was soo minimal that it didn't really bother us. we went to the redwood regional park. hiking through the redwoods is such a beautiful experience especially after a light rain because everything is soooo clean and green.  we both took cameras and i was SUPER excited to take pictures of the mister and his oh so adorable mustache, which by the way he is keeping because he looks so darn cute with it! so we took a bunch of pictures with my camera and when we got back to the car we realized there was no film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOOOOO BUMMED!!!!!!!!!!! well it is okay because we plan on going again and bringing lunch and doing the entire trail! but non the less we were still pretty bummed..but here are some pictures that we did get!

notice anything different about my hair?

taking a picture with no film :( so sad
walking into this last picture was like walking into a scene from little red riding hood...it was soo magical. i can't wait to go again and take some more photos! the last time i went on a hike like this was probably 8th grade! it felt so good to be at a slow pace, breath fresh crisp air and get some exercise while doing something that i love but haven't done in years!

when was the last time you went on a hike?
