what i have been up to

hey everybody! how was everyone's weekend? it has been very busy around here since i last posted. busy in a good way. i don't know if you have noticed but i don't like sitting still, i like to be busy even on my day off. here is what has been going down over in my neck of the woods...
i changed my septum retainer for a hoop! now i'm double hopping it and i really love it. sometimes it can take a bit for a change to settle in but i loved it the instance she changed it to a hoop. the retainer annoyed me because it was a bit long for my nose so it would end up sticking out on one side and making me feel a little silly. it feels so much better to have a hoop in too.
drawing drawing drawing! i am almost finished with my sleeve that i am designing for a sweet lady and i have been working on some lady portraits. i have yet to finish coloring the ones i am working on. it is part of my homework for myself to finish coloring and then i will add them to my portfolio! i have always loved portrait tattoo flash and now i am kinda obsessed with them and i have so many ideas!
i got a tattoo! it is a work in progress for sure and will show it off when it is all finished. its HUGE and on my thigh. it is of a mayan princess with some mayan artwork in the background. i love it and since it is a mexican run and owned shop and me being partially mayan i wanted something that represent my heritage. i am so in love with it!! i can't wait for it to be finished. plus this is my first colored piece and may be the start of something new!
saturday tom and i did a bit of thrifting and hung out listening to the a's game in the park. i scored this awesome, what i think is handmade, dress. there are no tags on it and parts inside look a bit unfinished. i love that it looks a bit mexican and it fits me like a glove, heaven! plus i also scored a knee length apron for tattooing in. no more ink spots on my jeans & skirts :) that is always a good thing, no?

oh, and happy first day of october! can you believe it! halloween is almost here and then thanksgiving, the greatest holiday ever!!!

there is always friday

when things don't work out the way you think, always make the best of it. tuesday i was totally pumped to lay by the lake and soak up a little sun. after 6 days of work, i needed to be a slug in the sun and read a book but by the time tom got home from work and we got out act together it was too late, the lake was closed :( so instead of heading home and being sad, tom suggest we grab an iced coffee and head to eco thrift to see what treasures awaited us.
found a new embroidery to add to our wall and i thought the hand painted boat would look great in our "man lair", aka reading nook.
i was super excited about the bathing suit i found, it looks exactly like the jcrew full bathing suit i already have but i just couldn't resist buying it. plus it was $5 and it has plastic bra cups! yea, so sweet. the shoes i was super stoked to find because i have the worst luck finding shoes while thrifting. the cute ones are always size 6 so when i saw that they were my size, and they fit and looked so cute, did a little wiggle in the aisle, thanks thrifting god for lifting my spirits :D

friday we both have the day off, so we will be visiting the lake then and basking in all it's glory!
friday, i know you are only one day away but if you could some how get here magically sooner, i would love you for the rest of my days. please and thank you.

i heart the outdoors

heya. hope everyone had a great weekend.  i had myself a wonderful 3 day weekend; it was very hard to go back to work on sunday that's for sure!

as for our weekend we an amazing breakfast at a new place (more on that later) and did a bit of thrifting. after, tom and i headed to a trail nearby. it has rained a ton the day before so the trail was a bit muddy but it was such a beautiful day that we wanted to get out and get a little exercise.
since it was so moist out there was tons of mushrooms which i was very excited about. i love mushrooms and have been wanting to get one tattooed for the longest time but not sure where yet. i'm sure in a matter of time i will figure out the perfect spot for it :)
there was a unexpected waterfall that felt a bit out of place but i thought it was really pretty despite the dirty brown water. the sound of water, to me, is extremely soothing however we had to cut short our walk because the trail crossed the stream making it impossible to cross without rain boots so we had to turn around. neither tom or i were willing to walk across the moss covered tree either, cause you just know how that would have turned out :O yea, me, wet as a rat, covered in dirty brown water...no thanks!
what tom and i wore hiking :) he scored his awesome red pendleton while thrifting the day before. he looks like my very own handsome ranger rick! i love it. we still have not finished that roll of film we took with us; we have had it since christmas and i can't wait to see what surprises it brings! will share these too once developed.
yes, yes those are reindeer & bison in the same captivity. we have an awesome local zoo.
>>> a lot of time was spent outdoors this weekend. i went to the zoo with my mom on saturday. it was earth day there so there were tons of organizations out on display. for a while now i have had this lingering feeling of wanting to do more. and by doing more i mean by getting out there and helping improve our planet and making sure others in the future can enjoy the same things i do. i do feel like i do a lot, we ride out bikes, drive an old car that takes very little gas, recycle, thrift and eat organic. but i know we could be doing so much more.

there are so many things that i love about this place and i am the kind of lady that loves being outside and i feel at times that we take advantage of the things we love. i want to give back and i think now is the time. i am not sure yet what i would like to do, teaching & educating people is something that has been on my mind. i think the more aware & educated people are can help improve our earth.  i have looked up a couple organizations that are dear to my heart like the surfrider foundation and the east bay bike coalition and at the moment i amconsidering my options on how to give back. if you have any suggestions i would love to hear them!

bits and peeks

well, hello everyone and happy monday! i hope everyone had an excellent weekend. here are bits and pieces of our weekend!
finished up a recent tattoo design that i will show later this week. also updated my tattoo design portfolio and will be slowly adding more.
did some thrifting. hit the mother load of crocheted hangers, an illustrated flower book and some embroidery wall art! good times! i will showing the most magical find of all the later this week too!
found some plastic dinosaurs and added them to our succulent garden. they are so cute! if any one has any they want to get rid of let a girl know :)
a glimpse of what i wore thrifting. a new lace dress from urban and my oh so favorite clogs!
made a fort at work. we spent the night there friday night. it was soo much fun! we had to be up so early for the bike ride and the train doesn't start running till 6am which is when we needed to be at the start of the ride.
we didn't finish our 80 mile ride. we turned back about half way, it was pouring rain and tom and i were both soaked to the bone, even though we had rain gear. we didn't have anything for our shoes so we road for 6 hours with wet feet and wet clothes. it was cold and we were pretty numb to the core. it was a bit disappointing but at least we tried which is all that matters!
hunger games! my mom picked us up and we had a great time. it was sooo much better then i thought and left the movie a super happy little clam :)

>>> what isn't pictured: swimming at the gym, watching the entire first episode of downton abbey and eating pho after our long wet ride. it was a great weekend despite the cold wet ride!

tell me about your weekend?

fun with fam and thrifting

happy wednesday peaches! in my last post i mentioned i would share with you my treasures that we found while thrifting with kelly-anne this weekend but first i want to show you how gansta we are! hehe.
if you have a friend with a kinect be sure to invite yourself over as often as you can....so.much.fun! who doesn't like shakin' their rump to hip old school songs in the comfort of your own home?
hanging with my boys
we spent a good chunk of the day visiting various thrift stores and it was crazy how much we scored. the back of the trunk was full of bags of goodies, it was amazing! here are a few things i walked away with...
some super cute and not to mention comfy fabric slip ons. they make my feet so so happy :)
my eagle eye spotted this dolly parton album from across the room and i knew we needed to add it to our ever growing collection. isn't she just the most adorable? who doesn't love big hair, high-waisted jeans and a little bit of country twang?
my brother-in-law spotted this little roadrunner made from sand for us. it goes perfectly with our roadrunner plate we got in mexico a year ago. best brother-in-law, ever!!
i also scored this sweet vest! the pattern and colors are amazing! a tad too big but i have plans to fix it and i can't wait!
yes, yes, the cat is kinda a creepy but that is the whole lure of it!
lastly i scored this amazing find! now the nerd in my couldn't get over how exciting this find was and i hope someone out there can appreciate it too. what is this you ask well....it is a mystery puzzle! COOL RIGHT?!?!?! it comes with a little booklet and the puzzle has hidden clues to help solve the mystery! brilliant! i can't wait for a rainy day so i can get my sherlock holmes on!

we had such a blast that day and we hope to be up again to go on another thrifting adventure! any amazing finds lately? any nerdy ones i should know about?hehe

a thrifted fashion show of sorts

hi everyone! how was everyone's weekend? wonderful i hope. tom and i have been itching to go surfing again but we need to get some things taken care with gladys, our bug, before we can take her on along journey to santa cruz so we laid low this weekend and thrifted it up!

whenever we go thrifting and we get back home i do a fashion show of the things i get. this time around i got a nice load of vintage/new things that i was really stoked about. our favorite thrift store opened up a vintage section and there was loads of really awesome stuff, sadly some too big and some too small. but here is what i walked away with!
i call this my mod dress. it looks like the 60's and has that wonderful 60's polyester fabric. i have never been fond of this color but the dress fit so well and i love the shape that i couldn't resist. plus at 25% off you can't say no, just add a bright cardigan and your good to go!
my flower child skirt and new to me top. the skirt had never been worn or washed. the original tags were still on it and it had that stiff quality unwashed clothes has. it was a bit too long for my liking so i trimmed it a bit and hand sewed a blind hem. i have a bunch of the fabric left over and making a few bows with them, more then i will need, so once those are done, i will post them and they are up for grabs!

this was my favorite score because for the longest time i have been looking for a red and white stripe shirt, basic i know, and i know i could have found it at any store but i wanted to find it at a thrift store and low and behold i did! the skirt was a two piece set which i didn't get a picture of  the top for some reason but together it looked a bit too costumey for me, they work better as separates for me. i can't wait to wear this exact outfit with my lottas! it needs to be a bit warmer but that day will come soon :)
and to top it all off, tom spotted this amazing psychedelic owl for me! best husband ever! he fits perfectly with my rest of my collection, isn't he cute?

do any thrifting this weekend?

what i wore: after the storm

awww mid week. feels so nice knowing that today is my friday.
IMG_2073

i wore this to work last saturday. it didn't rain that day but it was SUPER windy. i rode my bike all the way to the train in my highest gear which is reserved for hill climbing. at one point i felt like i could have walked faster.
IMG_2076

i love this sweater so much and finally figured out how to wear it properly. since it doesn't have buttons or anything to secure it, it sometimes feels cape like. belting it really made a difference.
i got my leather backpack at the thrift store this weekend and i am not sure about it yet. i am having my yellow pannier fixed by celeste's mom. i really like the color and how small it is but since i am totting around my HUGE hardcover game of thrones book it doesn't leave much room for much else.
sporting my black triple triangle necklace i made for myself. i tried to add a pop of color as i have a hard time leaving the house in all neutrals so i threw on a bright orange lipstick. my ears have been a bit sensitive since i slept with earrings on so they are irritated at the moment. otherwise i would have worn a pair of bright orange studs i bought the other day.

breakfast and treasures

aint nothin' better! this is my serious breakfast face...lets do this!
hope you all had a great weekend! ours was filled with rain rain rain but it didn't get in the way of having a great day off together. tom wasn't feeling great and we had planned to ride our bikes out to the city and with the rain pouring we decided to stay local.

we headed out to get breakfast and i am so very happy that they serve grits at our local diner. it is my favorite thing to eat for breakfast. so warm and creamy.......here is my perfect way to eat them!

first, sprinkle with pepper......next.....
break up bits of bacon and scatter on top of grits...
then place an over easy egg on top and DEVOUR!!!!!!! so so so gooooood. there was a point though that i couldn't stuff anymore in my tummy so i had to call defeat but we will back and i will get my sweet revenge! muaahh!

after our delectable breakfast tom and i headed over to ecothrift, our favorite thrift store. this place is HUGE! they recently just moved into a warehouse so there is tons of space and lots and lots of treasures to be had.

i found this sweet red colander! now just need a tiny one for fruits :)

tom found me this agatha christie book. two of the stories i have read but the others i hadn't. once i am done with the game of thrones books i will be reading them. i love when tom finds me things, best husband ever!

also found this little cutie hiding amongst all the frames. she goes perfectly on the wall across from our bed :) i will be adding the poppie's with the faux bois frame when i get a chance to watercolor & ink it.

IMG_2067
i have been really wanting to make a pair of shorts and found this pattern amongst the others. what really sold me was the two tiered shorts. isn't his outfit just fabulous? it deserved a close up picture. i am trying to convince tom to bring this style back but with no avail....maybe i will just surprise him with these bad boys one of these days.

IMG_2069
lastly i found this really awesome vintage reversible raincoat for $5!!!!!!! i don't own a rain coat besides my bike cape so i was pretty stoked on finding this. i wore it to go see the girl with the dragon tattoo and this concludes a fabulous day around town.

p.s. the movie was awesome btw! everyone who hasn't seen it, should. i have been wanting to get a septum piercing for a long time and seeing that movie gave me the courage but still a little worried about it....any thoughts??
